This role involves leading a small engineering team, overseeing backend development, ensuring production health, and engaging in architectural discussions and investor communications.
Who We Are
SiteWorx builds intelligent building systems that combine hardware and cloud software to save energy, improve operations, and deliver actionable facility insights. We’ve launched a successful industrial lighting control solution and are seeking to diversify our offerings with AI analytics, onsite microgrid energy management, and ESG reporting features. Our team is small, consisting of less than 10 engineers, and we plan to grow with your help.
What You’ll Do
- Be an early technical leader and hands-on contributor. This role blends execution (shipping robust backend systems and integrations) with strategic thinking (architecting scalable systems, hiring, and supporting investor conversations)
- Lead a team of seasoned engineers and partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Field Engineers to prioritize reliability, supportability, and manufacturability
- Write, review, and ship backend services in Go; own critical parts of the production codebase, APIs, and data pipelines
- Prepare and present technical architecture for investors and partners; respond to technical due diligence and RFPs
- Own the engineering roadmap and delivery cadence. There’s not a dedicated Product Manager, so you’ll work with Sales and Customer Success to translate ideas into deliverables for your team to build
- Work with DevOps to ensure production health (uptime, incident response), manage platform costs, and implement monitoring/alerting and security controls
- Design scalable, secure, observable systems (microservices, event streams, message queues, database schema, caching, rate limits). Drive best practices: testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and SRE principles
- Hire, mentor, and lead engineers; set engineering KPIs and career paths; execute hiring plan and onboarding for a growing team
- Remember, we’re a small team - be ready to pick up the slack every day!
Who You Are
- A software engineer with at least 3 years in a leadership or 7 years in a senior contributor role
- Proven backend development experience - production services, API design, concurrency patterns (Go (Golang) preferred)
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure), containerization (Docker / Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and observability (logs, tracing, metrics)
- Experience building scalable distributed systems, message queues, data pipelines, and database design (PostgreSQL & TimescaleDB preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to lead architecture discussions and make pragmatic technical tradeoffs
- Comfortable engaging in technical fundraising/due-diligence conversations; able to translate technical choices into investor-friendly narratives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
- Independent and decisive with the ability to draw and act upon conclusions
- [Desired] Experience integrating with hardware or IoT devices, and working with firmware engineers. Familiarity with building automation standards (BACnet, Modbus) or DER/microgrid APIs
- [Desired] Prior startup or scale-up experience in energy, smart buildings, industrial IoT, or SaaS
- [Desired] Prior experience hiring and managing engineers in remote or hybrid environments
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience ($170k-$210k)
- Meaningful equity grant with vesting schedule tied to KPIs
- Flexible work schedule and flexible time off, with no cap on paid vacation
- 401(k) and Roth 401(k) retirement plans, with salary matching contributions up to 5%
- Heavily subsidized healthcare, dental, and vision insurance plans
- Fully subsidized AD&D, short-term and long-term disability plans
- Additional discounted insurance plans
- Remote-first work with potential to transition to hybrid in-office in Boston Area
- Company MacBook Pro – latest version
- Work-from-home tech; home office internet stipend
