As a Distinguished Engineer at Capital One, you will be a part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will work alongside our talented team of developers, machine learning experts, product managers and people leaders. Our Distinguished Engineers are leading experts in their domains, helping devise practical and reusable solutions to complex problems. You will drive innovation at multiple levels, helping optimize business outcomes while driving towards strong technology solutions.
At Capital One, we believe diversity of thought strengthens our ability to influence, collaborate and provide the most innovative solutions across organizational boundaries. You will promote a culture of engineering excellence, and strike the right balance between lending expertise and providing an inclusive environment where the ideas of others can be heard and championed. You will lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Capital One Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting to keep building our community.
Distinguished Engineers are expected to lead through technical contribution. You will operate as a trusted advisor for our key technologies, platforms and capability domains, creating clear and concise communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge both inside and outside the organization. You will specialize in a particular subject area, but your input and impact will be sought and expected throughout the organization.
In this role, you will work with our Enterprise Search and Knowledge Management team to provide deep technical expertise for 3rd Party SaaS based Enterprise Collaboration Platforms, and their associated Platform Management and Integrations (Google Product Suite, GCP, Office 365, Azure, AWS, Vertex AI), and designing large scale migrations into the Google Platform. You will be a thought leader on how to successfully deploy and maintain an Enterprise Search capability spanning technology stacks to the enterprise. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how 3rd Party Platforms and both internal and external communication services (email) integrate and interact with large scale systems within a large, regulated enterprise environment. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and strategic guidance to our engineer, product, and leadership groups.
If you are ready to provide thought leadership and build engineering excellence across Capital One's engineering teams, come join us in our mission to change banking for good.
Key responsibilities:
  • Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for Enterprise Collaboration Platforms, Technical Excellence in Well Managed Integrations, and Knowledge Management practices
  • Collaborate and partner with other Distinguished Engineers, Accountable Executives, and other executive stakeholders to influence and align the organization around critical strategic initiatives and solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership to platform engineers, product managers, and all other stakeholders leveraging a deep understanding of Google product suite, Google Cloud Platform, and other critical collaboration platforms
  • Partner with our Governance, Risk, and Controls teams to identify endemic and emerging risks in our technology, as well as develop elegant and effective strategies to address and mitigate those risks in a highly governed ecosystem.
  • Lead and support the development, governance, and integration of generative AI technologies into our 3rd Party Product Suite
  • Collaborate with product management, Architecture, and Engineering teams to define and implement data-driven strategic roadmaps with a focus on third party platform integrations
  • Provide strategic consultation on management and application deployment in Azure and GCP
  • Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
  • Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability and operability
  • Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, proactively injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community with a focus to deliver high quality tangible technical impacts to the broad collaboration ecosystem.
  • Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing your time to maximize impact
  • Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
  • Identify and curate opportunities for our tech talent to demonstrate improvements to both technical skills and non-technical behaviors
  • Demonstrate influence over our internal partners, aligning them to our strategic goals, as well as our external partners and vendors, developing the relationships needed to steer product roadmaps and long term imperatives
  • Become a talent magnet for the organization, drawing in superior talent from the industry. Participate in the vetting and interviewing process to provide insight and feedback to hiring managers for our technical scopes.
