The Opportunity:
At athenahealth, data migration is a strategic moment in the customer journey. When executed with precision and care, it builds trust, accelerates go-live readiness, and positions customers for strong outcomes from day one.
Position Summary:
As the executive owner of athenahealth’s data migration strategy, the Data Migration Director is accountable for the effectiveness, scalability, and outcomes of all data migration offerings and operations. Partnering closely with executive leaders across Sales, Customer Success, and Product, this role shapes how customers experience athenahealth from day one—accelerating speed, improving quality, and building confidence through predictable, high-quality migrations.
In this role, you will lead a cross-functional organization of approximately 40 functional and technical resources, delivering disciplined, repeatable data migrations at scale. You will ensure customer data is migrated quickly, securely, and reliably, enabling new and growing practices to launch with confidence and achieve early success on the athenahealth platform.
You will also serve as a key partner to Product, translating delivery insights and customer feedback into a clear data migration tooling roadmap that strengthens platform capabilities, improves operational performance, and positions data migration as a competitive differentiator for athenahealth.
Responsibilities
Own athenahealth’s Customer Onboarding Data Migration strategy—defining the operating model, capacity plan, partner approach, quality standards, and customer outcomes that position data migration as a core differentiator.
Deliver on a comprehensive vendor management strategy that drives an elevated level of coordination, transparency, and performance. Implement a structure that creates stronger performance accountability.
Serve as the executive voice of customer for data migrations, shaping product roadmap priorities, tooling, workflows, and guardrails that improve speed, quality, and scalability across the platform.
Drive cross-functional alignment across Sales, Customer Success, Onboarding, and Product, ensuring clear ownership, cohesive execution, and consistent customer outcomes throughout onboarding.
Define and operationalize customer-centric KPIs that go beyond traditional measures (e.g., TAT and escalations), using data to drive transparency, accountability, and measurable improvements in early customer outcomes.
Own data quality, governance, and executive-level risk management, ensuring no-surprise migrations through strong QA, escalation management, and post-migration validation.
Lead the responsible adoption of automation and AI to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and scale migrations while maintaining trust, governance, and regulatory integrity.
Build and develop a high-performing leadership organization, fostering a strong coaching culture, clear career paths, and sustained functional and technical expertise.
Represent athenahealth with authority, communicating trends, insights, and risks to executive stakeholders and engaging customers, partners, and industry forums to reinforce trust and leadership in data migration excellence.
Desired Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to distill complex problems and design effective and scalable solutions.
Extensive experience leading strategy, technical and escalated conversations with C-level customers and stakeholders.
