About the Role

The Director of Communications & Content defines and drives Liftoff’s global narrative across audiences: customers, employees, partners, and the broader market. This senior role ensures message consistency, clarity, and impact across earned, owned, and internal channels.

You’ll lead a small team as well as external agency resources across external communications, internal communications, content strategy, and digital strategy, working closely with Product Marketing, Regional Marketing, Brand, and Executive Leadership to align storytelling and voice across all key touchpoints.

This role is ideal for a content-focused leader who blends strategic storytelling with operational rigor and who thrives in dynamic, high-growth environments.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications Leadership

  • Serve as a key partner to Regional Marketing, Product Marketing, and Brand to ensure consistent narratives across campaigns, launches, and corporate storytelling.
  • Manage PR and agency relationships to deliver measurable, high-impact visibility across global markets.
  • Oversee executive communications and thought leadership, positioning Liftoff’s leaders as credible, relevant voices in the industry.

Content & Narrative Development

  • Guide the company’s editorial calendar across web, social, and media channels, ensuring cohesive storytelling that supports brand and business objectives.
  • Partner with the Digital & Content Strategist to evolve content for new modes of discovery, including AI-driven search and digital engagement.
  • Elevate Liftoff’s presence through data-driven, audience-focused storytelling that builds credibility and engagement.

Internal Communications

  • Lead internal communications strategy to align and inspire employees around company goals and milestones.
  • Partner with HR and leadership to craft messaging that builds transparency, connection, and a unified sense of purpose across regions.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage and mentor a team spanning content, digital, external comms, and internal comms roles.
  • Collaborate closely with regional marketing leads to ensure global consistency with local relevance.
  • Work cross-functionally with Brand and Creative to translate Liftoff’s story into compelling visual and written expressions.
About You
  • 10+ years of experience in communications, PR, or content strategy, ideally within B2B technology, ad tech, SaaS, or digital marketing.
  • Proven experience leading global communications or brand storytelling for a growth-stage organization.
  • Exceptional writing and messaging skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas into clear, human, and impactful narratives.
  • Strong experience managing media relations, agency partnerships, and thought leadership programs.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to set measurable goals and demonstrate impact.
  • Collaborative, confident, and comfortable leading through influence in a matrixed organization.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
