The Role:

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Commercial Excellence to lead the optimization of our end-to-end commercial operations. This role reports to the Chief Commercial Officer and is responsible for driving sales effectiveness, enhancing go-to-market execution, and ensuring alignment across sales, marketing, and cross functional teams. Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Architect and continuously re-engineer the end-to-end sales process to drive efficiency and shorten the sales cycle, including the identification and implementation of innovative solutions like AI-powered proposal generation.
  • Spearhead the commercial technology stack strategy with full ownership of the CRM system, ensuring data integrity, user adoption, and system optimization to support sales and marketing objectives.

  • Design and lead a comprehensive onboarding program for all new sales and commercial team members, focused on instilling our company culture, values, and core sales methodologies from day one.
  • Establish and drive a continuous learning program for the entire commercial team, delivering regular training on new product capabilities, evolving value propositions, competitive intelligence, and best practices.
  • Lead the planning and execution of strategic Go-to-Market (GTM) initiatives, ensuring tight alignment between a well-trained sales team, marketing, and product development to maximize market impact.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by leading a structured Problem-Solving Process (PSP) to systematically identify, analyze, and resolve commercial challenges and process bottlenecks.
  • Partner with sales leadership to define and monitor sales effectiveness metrics, using data-driven insights to inform coaching strategies, territory planning, and resource allocation.
  • Act as the primary driver for commercial planning and alignment events, including annual sales kick-offs and quarterly business reviews, to ensure the entire team is moving forward in unison.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in sales operations, commercial, business development, or any related strategy role
  • Proven track record of designing and optimizing sales processes and driving measurable improvements in performance
  • Deep experience with CRM platforms and commercial analytics tools
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into strategic insights and actionable recommendations
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
