About This Job

We're looking for an experienced, entrepreneurial, and highly motivated Director of Business Development to lead enterprise sales for our Platform business, with a focus on Scaler - a dynamic techno-economic modeling software that empowers companies to confidently evaluate, launch, and improve biobased products.

Scaler enables comprehensive production and financial analysis through customized modeling specific to a company’s bioprocess, and leverages Synonym’s deep biomanufacturing expertise from veterans of Jacobs, Merrick, Cargill, and DuPont, ensuring unmatched accuracy and data integrity.

The Director of Business Development will report directly to the GM, Platform and collaborate closely across internal teams.

Outcomes and Mandate

  • Develop and execute a targeted go-to-market strategy for Scaler, specifically focused on large corporations actively exploring commercial biomanufacturing solutions.

  • Identify, prospect, and engage senior decision-makers, leveraging existing relationships and strategic outreach to drive the adoption of Scaler.

  • Clearly communicate Scaler’s value proposition, demonstrating how our modeling software uniquely addresses enterprise customer needs for accurate, flexible, and robust biomanufacturing cost analysis.

  • Build long-term relationships by understanding customer pain points, translating these insights into compelling proposals, and negotiating successful agreements.

  • Act as the voice of the customer internally, providing valuable feedback to enhance Scaler’s features, user experience, and market positioning.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional Synonym teams (product, technical, legal) to ensure customer satisfaction, seamless onboarding, and ongoing support.

Competencies

  • Enterprise Sales Expert: 7-10 years of success selling enterprise software, SaaS, or complex technology to VP-level and above in biotech, biomanufacturing, specialty chemicals, or related industries.

  • Biomanufacturing Knowledgeable: Familiar with scaling bioprocesses, techno-economic modeling, and cost analysis, enabling credibility with technical and executive stakeholders.

  • Self-Starter & Entrepreneurial: Thrives in fast-paced startups, takes ownership, and consistently drives results with minimal oversight.

  • Strategic Communicator: Builds trust with enterprise buyers, translating complex technical and economic concepts into clear, compelling value propositions.

  • Analytical & Insightful: Uses data-driven insights to prioritize opportunities, demonstrate ROI, and navigate complex sales discussions.

Compensation

Base Salary: $150,000 – $170,000

On-Target Earnings (OTE): $210,000 – $230,000+ (Base + Commission)
