About The Role

We’re looking for a Director, Brand Design who can bridge product and marketing — a hybrid thinker who crafts beautiful, scalable systems and brings them to life in campaigns, UI, and content. You’ll sit in the Growth org, led by Morgan Brown, and partner closely with Product Design, Creative, and Comms. Your north star: make every experience — from ad to app — feel unmistakably Opendoor, and use a refreshed design system as a growth lever.

This is a player-coach role: you’ll set the vision, build the system and standards, ship real work, and mentor your team and collaborators across functions.

What You’ll Do

Design System Leadership

  • Translate brand strategy into a modern, scalable design system (tokens, color, type, iconography, illustration, motion, accessibility) that powers both product and marketing.

  • Lead the end-to-end refresh of Opendoor’s design system; establish governance, documentation, versioning, and adoption plans.

  • Build clear, modular guidelines and templates for internal teams and external partners to move fast with quality.

Product x Marketing Integration

  • Partner with Product Design and Growth PMs to infuse brand personality into in-product moments (onboarding, confirmations, animations, empty states, education).

    • Design and optimize growth surfaces: website, landing pages, offer flows, onboarding, email/CRM, and paid media destinations.

    • Champion an end-to-end customer journey — ensuring visual and emotional consistency from first impression to closed deal.

Creative, Content, and Performance

  •  Concept and deliver integrated campaigns and content that connect seamlessly to the product experience.

  • Create tooling and repeatable systems for performance creative across channels (CRM, web, social, programmatic, video, OOH, retail signage).

  • Infuse motion and storytelling to bring warmth, confidence, and humanity to the brand while driving measurable lift.

Leadership, Operations, and Collaboration

  • Serve as a connector across Marketing, Product Design, Comms, Data, and Media — aligning what we promise with what we deliver.

  • Establish design quality bars, review rituals, accessibility standards, and localization guidance.

  • Manage agency/vendor relationships; coach and uplevel designers and cross-functional creators. Opportunity to build a small, high-impact team over time.

What You'll Need
  • 8–12+ years in brand, visual, or graphic design; tech, fintech, or consumer marketplace experience preferred.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates both storytelling and systems thinking — brand expressed across UI, campaigns, and content with measurable impact.

  • Proven track record building and scaling design systems used by product and marketing; fluency in tokens, components, documentation, and governance.

  • Strong cross-functional chops — comfortable partnering with Growth, Product, Data Science, Media, and Engineering.

  • Mastery of Figma and modern design workflows; familiarity with motion design, illustration, and component libraries is a plus.

  • Bias for clarity, simplicity, and trust; exceptional craft and a knack for translating strategy into shipped work.

  • Player-coach mindset: you can zoom out to set direction and zoom in to execute with excellence.

  • AI Fluency: Demonstrated mastery of AI-powered design tools (e.g., Midjourney, Magnific, Runway, etc.) for ideation, asset creation, and production.

  • Scalable Systems: Experience building and using scalable design systems, including AI prompt libraries and component kits to accelerate team-wide output.

  • High-Velocity Execution: A portfolio that showcases an ability to produce high-quality work in rapid, iterative cycles, with examples of projects that went from concept to launch in days, not weeks.

  • Pragmatic Craft: Proven ability to make smart trade-offs between speed and polish, delivering excellent results within a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Why Opendoor
  • Shape one of the most disruptive brands in real estate at a critical moment of category transformation.
  • Use a refreshed design system to drive cohesion, velocity, and growth across product and marketing.
  • Work at the intersection of creativity and technology with exceptional peers in design, growth, and engineering — all united by a mission to make moving simple.

  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
