Role Summary
SolarWinds IT Operations is evolving from “ticket takers” to a modern Platform & Operations Engineering organization. Our mission is to give engineers secure and reliable platforms so they can focus on building and shipping products.
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to strengthen our IT DevOps team. In this role, you will own and evolve the internal platforms that power engineering: CI/CD, GitHub, AWS/Azure/GCP environments, and the next generation of developer workstations using Azure DevBox.
This is a senior individual contributor role with broad scope across tools, infrastructure, and process.
What You’ll Do
Platform Engineering & Automation
• Work closely with engineering teams to understand their workflows and pain points, and turn them into platform features instead of one off fixes.
• Provide guidance and patterns for teams using CI/CD, infrastructure, and cloud resources, balancing freedom with sensible defaults and controls.
• Design, implement, and operate self hosted build platforms (TeamCity, GitHub Actions runners, EKS backed workloads) in AWS and Kubernetes.
• Own and improve our artifact and package management stack (JFrog Artifactory, Xray) including lifecycle, retention, and performance.
• Treat our internal infrastructure as products: define golden paths for repositories, CI/CD, and dev/test environments and make them easy to adopt.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) for AWS, Azure, and VMware/private cloud resources.
• Automate repetitive operations and standard requests (environment provisioning, access, account setup) instead of scaling by tickets.
• Integrate and operationalize security tools (GitHub Advanced Security, Xray, SignPath, Azure Artifact Signing, etc.) as part of paved road workflows.

How We Operate
• Lead by example on planning, documentation, and change management: every significant change has a clear plan, ticket, and runbook or documentation update.
• Break down and deliver complex work incrementally; communicate progress and risks clearly to peers and leadership.
• Mentor other engineers in automation, reliability practices, and platform thinking; help raise the bar for the whole team.
What You’ll Bring
Required
• Strong experience as a Senior DevOps / Platform / SRE engineer supporting development teams in a cloud centric environment.
• Deep hands on knowledge of AWS (IAM, VPC, EC2/EKS, networking basics) and solid experience with Kubernetes in production.
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred) and configuration management.
• Familiarity with GitHub administration at organization/enterprise level (policies, protections, runners, security features).
• Demonstrated track record of owning services end to end: design, implementation, documentation, and steady state operations.
• Excellent communication skills; able to translate between engineering needs and IT/operations constraints.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
