About Us:

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20M Series A backed by Felicis Ventures (investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) and Battery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role:

Proton is shifting from a single-product company to a multi-product platform—and we’re ready to scale the engine that gets our message in front of the right people at the right time. We’ve invested heavily in our fuel (strong content, clear messaging, a differentiated POV). Now we need someone who can turn that fuel into pipeline. That’s where you come in.

As our Demand Generation Manager, you’ll sit at the center of growth. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you’ll own pipeline generation and make Proton feel inescapable to our market. When a BDR calls an account, we want them saying: “I feel like I see Proton everywhere.”

This is not a “run what we’ve always run” job. It’s a creative, experimental, AI-native role for someone who thinks beyond the obvious and knows how to get attention from a very specific audience.

You should love ads. You should be in the weeds. You should have opinions about creative, targeting, formats, and budgets, and be excited to test weird ideas. You should be comfortable using AI to build interactive experiences, move quickly, and run marketing plays that don't look or feel like everyone else’s.

Success in this role means hitting key goals like pipeline creation, lead quality, and campaign performance—all while helping us stay ahead of our ambitious growth targets. If you want to own a big, high-visibility number and build demand programs that directly fuel revenue, this is the role for you.

The salary range will be $120k-$140k based on skills and experience.

What you’ll do:
  • Paid advertising: Manage our paid ad strategy, run ads, and ensure every dollar spent delivers maximum ROI while consistently fueling inbound demand.
  • Run demand generation programs: Build and execute strategies that surface new opportunities for our BDRs to follow up on, ensuring a steady flow of high-quality leads into the pipeline.
  • Use AI to build magnetic experiences: Create interactive, “I have to try this” lead magnets using AI. Tools, graders, assessments, anything that feels genuinely useful enough for someone to trade their email or phone number.
  • Develop nurture programs: Create campaigns to keep "not now" prospects engaged, ensuring we stay top-of-mind until the timing is right for them to buy.
  • Drive ABM success: Design and execute personalized campaigns targeting high-value accounts, using creative strategies to break into key markets.
  • Experiment and scale: Test and iterate on new ideas—such as micro-events, direct mail, or creative outreach—to discover what works and scale successful programs.
  • Collaborate across teams: Partner with Sales, Content, and RevOps to align strategies, share insights, and ensure seamless execution across the funnel.
  • Measure and optimize: Track campaign performance, analyze ROI, and continuously refine strategies to improve outcomes.
Who you are:
  • You’ve done this before— you have 3+ years in demand generation or growth marketing for SaaS, DTC, or a paid ads agency.
  • You’re resourceful and scrappy—you know how to make things happen, even with tight budgets.
  • You’re results-driven—you focus on outcomes and use data to track performance and optimize campaigns.
  • You have a bias for action—you take initiative, love testing and learning, and aren’t afraid to take risks if they’re measurable.
  • You’re collaborative yet independent—you work well with others but don’t need hand-holding to get things done.
  • You’re a confident communicator—you’re comfortable being the face of a webinar or event and connecting authentically with your audience.
  • You have strong expertise with platforms like Google Ads and LinkedIn, with a proven ability to manage and optimize campaigns for performance.
  • You’re creative and think outside the box. We’re building a standout product, so your campaigns need to stand out too.
  • You’ve used tools like HubSpot and you can set up and run an automated campaign on your own.
  • Bonus points if you:
    • Have built an AI-powered asset, tool, or interactive experience
    • Have experience running ABM programs
    • Have experience marketing vertical software
Benefits:
  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options - we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Flexible Schedule - we think high levels of autonomy, responsibility, and working asynchronously foster an amazing workplace.
  • Biannual Company Paid Off-sites - time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
