Database Infrastructure Engineering & Operations Leader. Vice President
The Data Platform Engineering & Operations team's mission is to engineer and deliver self-service, performant and resilient database services platform to enable world class product development.
This role will be responsible for leading the Global Infrastructure comprising all relational Database Engineering & Operations environments - Oracle/Exadata, SQL Server, Sybase, Cloud native relational services and other related platforms that are installed on-prem and moving to the various cloud landing zones. As part of Production Management organization, the individual in this role will continuously build, manage, mentor & mature a team of highly skilled engineers who repeatedly deliver highly secure, scalable, reliable, efficient and automated database technology operations services that are focused on the needs of all State Street businesses 24*7*365 days. The individual and team will also be responsible for Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge and Configuration management for all relational database infrastructure platforms. This role will be responsible for the day to day governance of all Database infrastructure platform operations processes, ensuring all technology SLA’s/OLA’s are met, driving platform availability. In collaboration with the business, technology peers, and vendor partners, you will ensure that State Street’s businesses have optimized services and operations, enabling greater availability, performance and reliability in the delivery of State Street products.
Responsibilities include:
- Global Management of Operations of all relational Database Operations team members including service partner resources
- Global Management of Operations Oracle Database & Exadata Operations team members including service providers
- SME & Management escalation point of contact for major incidents
- Incident, Change, Knowledge, and Problem Management accountability
- Technical skills on Oracle database, Exadata appliances & operations, RAC, Golden Gate, OEM, Sybase, SQL Server, Cloud native RDS platforms, Oracle Dataguard solution, Performance tuning, Backup/Recovey, Standby, Replication, ZFS, etc.
- Vendor Governance - SLA, Compliance Review, Contractual Commitment, Service Improvement, etc.
- 24 x 7 x 365 incident escalations
- Resiliency, Stability, and Continuous Service Improvement for platforms
- Capacity & Lifecycle Management of Platforms
- Cost optimization and simplification for platform
- Global standardization - Platform, services, and processes
- Establish & Deliver projects building high performing onshore, nearshore, and offshore org structure
- Collaborates with Service Delivery, Engineering, ITSM, Architecture, Application teams, Technology vendors, Security, Application support and other infrastructure operations teams to operate resilient, and secure platforms at industry best standards
- The candidate must exhibit ability to lead and successfully complete multiple, complex technical projects and create high-level design and architecture of the solution - includes design & deployment infrastructure diagrams.
- Be a self-starter and take ownership of technical solutions from design and architecture perspective for projects, help navigate complex use-cases to provide guidance on fit-for-platform
- Gather end user requirements and writing technical documentation
- Provide innovative solutions based on new technologies and latest product features.
- Work closely with application development team to understand the business, capture requirements, identify pain areas, accordingly, propose an ideal solution to grow business.
- Automation of all repeatable database tasks encouraging use of enterprise standard tools - Managing pipelines using Terraform, Harness, Python, etc. scripts to deploy database components
- Provide Administrative support closely working with vendor partners for any environment issues.
- Understand the needs of automation and put forth options for solutions.
- Work with production management and cloud teams to analyze and provide solutions for database related automation and solution
Required Skills and Experience:
- Candidate must have 10+ years of experience managing global database platform engineering & operations teams that operate 24*7*365 days supporting highly critical Banking/Financial products.
- Excellent Leadership, Communication and Presentation Skills
- Strong Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Analytical, Collaboration and Decision-Making Skills
- Deep knowledge of database security and auditing requirements – guides team to implement the same and successfully addresses all internal audit & regulatory asks.
- Experience in Vendor/Partner, Budget, & Project Management
- Must have prior experience with end-to-end implementation of database infrastructure platforms on-prem and cloud – on OCI, AWS & Azure, optionally on GCP.
- Skills & experience must include deep expertise in multi-relational database environment that keep adapting to new platforms.
- Deep knowledge of some key platforms such as Exadata, ZFS, etc. with implementation experience in multi-cloud environments - advanced concepts of HA/DR setup, resource monitors, RBAC controls, capacity management, cost optimization, query performance tuning, governance, etc. and be able to provide guidance on how to use these features
- Should be well versed in concepts of data modelling, ELT using Golden Gate or other similar tools.
- Knowledge or Experience in development and management of CI/CD pipelines using GIT repositories and DevOps for Infrastructure-as-Code deployments (terraform, ansible, python, etc.)
- Experience in large Database Migrations from on-prem to multi-cloud environments
- Deep understanding of relational and optionally some of the industry standard NoSQL data stores, methods and approaches (star and snowflake, dimensional modelling etc.)
- Experience with data security and data access controls and design – be able to implement best practices based on organization policies & requirements, at the same time making it simple for users.
- Experience with AWS and Azure PaaS, data storage and management technologies such as S3 and ADLS
- Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
- Must be Proficient in reviewing complex SQL code to tune, troubleshoot & resolve performance challenges in the environment or applications.
- Strong written communication skills. Is effective and persuasive in both written and oral communication.
- Is able to lead devops/automation resources in delivering self-service capabilities
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to be open to discussion of potential options.
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of the overall software development life cycle including development, testing and deployment of all application modules
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced development environment
Desirable Skills:
- B.S/M.S Degree
- 7+ years in Technical Leadership role
- 5+ years as L3 Production Support Engineer
- Oracle, RAC, Dataguard, Standby, GoldenGate, Replication, ZFS, Exadata, UNIX, AIX, Linux
- Database platform management in Private/Public Cloud
- Good to be Certified in database administration – Oracle, SQL Server, Cloud platforms, Architecture etc.
- Knowledge of ITIL framework

Salary Range:
$140,000 - $222,500 AnnualThe range quoted above applies to the role in the location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the location above, the applicable range could differ.
