The Manager, Data Engineering will play a crucial role within our Data Infrastructure and Performance (DIP) org as we implement a brand new Customer Data Platform (CDP). This person will serve as the technical lead (player-coach) for a small new team dedicated to maximizing the impact of this CDP at Toast. We are looking for a motivated, energetic candidate with experience building and maintaining data integrations, pipelines and workflows at scale in production environments. You will be responsible for developing a powerful 360-degree view of the customer that enables a world-class customer journey and helps our restaurant partners thrive.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Sits within the Enterprise Applications & Technology (CIO) organization
  • Technical ownership of our Customer Data Platform - combining real-time tag-based events, data warehouses, data lakes and batched system extractions
  • Builds and maintains integrations and workflows between various business systems and the Toast CDP
  • Develops testing and QA to data flowing into the Toast CDP is accurate and reliable
  • Partners with technical teams across the organization to ensure the data they are producing is flowing into the Toast CDP as expected
  • Ues customer identification resolution to create a true 360-degree view of all relevant restaurant customer activity coming from various sources 
  • Focused on making sure stakeholders throughout the organization can create powerful customer segments, orchestration and tests within the Toast CDP
  • Hire, manage and develop 2 direct reports

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in data related field, or ability to demonstrate knowledge comparable to that acquired through a traditional 4yr degree
  • 3+ years professional experience in a Data Engineering role or personal project work demonstrating equivalent skills
  • 1+ years experience managing analysts and/or mentoring top performers - comfortable and effective giving feedback
  • Comfortable working with non-technical stakeholders to ensure your solutions meet their expectations and experienced debugging when issues arise
  • Familiarity with orchestration tools and version control tools
  • Experience building data pipelines to/from various sources with complex webs of dependencies
  • SQL and Python expert when it comes to data applications
  • Comfortable using APIs (including webhooks) to interact with web applications and push/pull data
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, changing environment and to adapt while focusing on key goals and objectives

Bonus ingredients*:

  • Work experience in a high growth tech or SaaS company
  • CDP development experience - ActionIQ, Tealium, Segment, Treasure Data, etc
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Airflow, Agile, AWS, GitHub, dbt, NetSuite, or Salesforce
