Job Description

Chirag Patel's group is seeking a Data Scientist with a focus on engineering and/or, mulit-omic integration analytics, machine learning, and AI, to join our team! We are located at the Department of Biomedical Informatics (https://www.chiragjpgroup.org/members.html), Harvard Medical School, with affiliations with the Harvard Data Science Institute, and Harvard School of Public Health, and Harvard associated hospitals.

In this role you will develop efficient software solutions to analyze the impact of the exposome and genome on health outcomes in large datasets, and package these solutions as applications.

The exposome is a promising and emerging modality to explain disease variation (papers in press in Nature Medicine) that impacts humans on all levels: from the single cell to populations, providing a rich substrate to do novel work. Candidates with experience in developing approaches to analyze large multi-modal datasets are encouraged to apply. Candidates who wish to deploy the next generation of exposome AI models are also highly encouraged to apply.  These positions come with data ready to analyze: the candidate can focus on developing engineering/software based solutions and writing papers from day 1.

Check out our most recent papers and progress here: https://www.chiragjpgroup.org/pubs.html.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate exposome data science into real-world clinical applications.
  • Help to design exposome foundation models for disease physiology.
  • Characterize how an individual’s exposome drives variation in response to pharmaceutical intervention.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across Harvard (HSPH, HMS) and at partner universities to enhance data collection, cleaning, and integration processes, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Produce engineering outputs, including databases, application programming interfaces, apps.
  • Produce high-impact peer-reviewed articles, and presentations for academic and non-academic audiences.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS) in Computer Science/Informatics or related technical field strongly preferred.
  • Experience in managing projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in large scale analysis and familiarity with health-related datasets.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (R, Python, etc.), and working knowledge of data management protocols.
  • Experience with exposome or environmental data, multiomics integration, and exposure-wide association studies (ExWAS) and GIS preferred but not required.

Additional Information

  • Appointment End Date: This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.
  • Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week
  • Visa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Pre-Employment Screening: Identity
  • Other Information: Please note that we are currently conducting a majority of interviews and onboarding remotely and virtually. We appreciate your understanding.
