About Sleeper

Sleeper is a sports-focused games platform with messaging at its core. We are a young and energetic company, fueled by a passion for sports and a drive for innovation. Our mission is to create a digital playground for sports fans and their friends to hang out. We bring people together over sports.

About the Role

At Sleeper, we’re building the most engaging and trusted fantasy sports experience in the world, This role sits right at the intersection of growth, product, and platform integrity. As a Data Scientist focused on Risk and User Experience, you’ll shape how millions of users onboard, interact, and transact on our platform.

You’ll go beyond dashboards, designing the systems that help us understand player behavior in real time, detect fraud before it happens, and create seamless experiences that don’t get in the user’s way. From instrumenting event-level data to building models that identify suspicious activity, your work will directly influence how we scale safely and intelligently.

This is a highly cross-functional role where you’ll partner closely with product, engineering, and operations to turn data into action. You’ll help define what “good” looks like across the user journey, build the infrastructure to measure it, and continuously refine our systems as the landscape evolves.

If you’re excited about solving complex, high-impact problems in a fast-moving environment, this is your chance to build from the ground up and make a meaningful impact on a rapidly growing gaming platform.

    • Build analytical frameworks to surface signals that inform adaptive user flows (dynamic verification requirements etc)

    • Establish prevalence measurement methodologies to quantify fraudulent activities on the platform

    • Partner with our operations teams to triage and mitigate any ongoing threats to the platform

  • Advanced Analytics

    • Classify transaction risk (payment method, account-level signals)

    • Apply clustering, anomaly detection etc to large scale behavioral data

    • Continuously evaluate implemented systems and iterate based on shifting market trends

What We Offer

Sleeper believes in quality over quantity, and intentionally keeps our team small as a result. In past roles, we found it very hard to make a big impact when companies grow too large in size, which has a detrimental effect on the product and the impact any single individual can have. Our team includes designers, engineers, product experts, and finance & operation focused on one thing — connecting people over sports. We believe in fair and equitable pay. Certain locations in the United States require job postings to include a reasonable estimate of the base salary range and/or a general description of benefits and other compensation applicable to the role.

Competitive salary range of $130,000 to $175,000, plus benefits including Medical, Dental, PTO, 401k. Please note that the salary range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The policy of Sleeper is to provide equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, citizenship status, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status and to affirmatively seek to advance the principles of equal employment opportunity. Sleeper is committed to being an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers opportunities to all job seekers, including job seekers with disabilities. If you are a qualified individual with a disability or a disabled veteran, you may request a reasonable accommodation if you are unable or limited in your ability to use or access the Company’s career webpage as a result of your disability.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
