Job Description
As a Data Scientist VP in CTC Architecture's new and emerging risk department, you'll join an organization that leverages your skills to help develop, test and scale data science enabled solutions that help secure our systems by design, protect our data and strengthen resiliency.
Your ability to understand data relationships and take ownership of data-driven tasks will be key to your success. You'll also develop approaches and/or processes to accomplish goals with an emphasis on A/B testing & advanced analytics. You will help drive a number of experimental engagements that will leverage data science to robustly evaluate the effect of novel interventions in the software, model and data development lifecycles, and scale their deployment across different firmwide teams.
You will help to thoughtfully scope, execute and advocate for experiments and generate evidential results that will credibly guide scaled-up initiatives that reduce our partners' cybersecurity/technology risk, increase developer velocity, enhance engineering experience, or reduce toil. A key thematic focus across the experimental portfolio will be on developing novel insights on how AI-driven solutions can be developed and used by firmwide partner teams, at maximum velocity, and minimum risk.
You'll utilize strong communication skills to develop relationships, spark curiosity and direct collaboration with key stakeholders and partners across functions and lines-of-business. Many experiments are focused on how human decision-making intersects with risk, so experience with human-centered design, behavioral economics and security engineering will be valuable.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and analyze A/B tests to evaluate the effectiveness of various strategies, initiatives, and ML/AI models

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify testing opportunities and develop hypothesis-driven proposals for novel risk reduction strategies, along with the rationale for how they advance the priorities of the businesses we support

  • Leverage a variety of statistical and mathematical techniques and algorithms to analyze datasets and solve complex business problems

  • Obtain and validate data assets for experimental use, either through familiarity with the firm's systems of record, and/or through developing relationships with x-LoB data SMEs

  • Ensure rigorous statistical analysis and interpretation of test results to inform business decisions

  • Identify creative opportunities to enrich and extend hypothesis-driven data experimentations using the firm's existing data assets, to drive incremental value

  • Integrate successful solutions with the existing JPMC application estate, Governance, Risk, Control ecosystem, and systems of record

  • Prepare concrete delivery plans for how to scale up validated solutions - use case cadence, stakeholder priorities, infrastructure required, feature roadmap, obstacles foreseen etc

  • Develop data-driven narratives that summarize and communicate key messages to senior management, sponsors, and colleagues

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
  • 5+ years of experience working in an A/B testing and/or analytical role and/or enterprise data science role

  • MS degree in a related field, such as Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or similar STEM discipline

  • Experience using statistical programming languages (Python, R) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets

  • Demonstrable curiosity about enterprise technology, risk and decision-making

  • Practical understanding of ML/AI and its use in enterprise contexts

  • Adept at explaining and converting complex concepts into digestible information for audiences at various levels of the business

  • Strong storytelling capabilities

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
  • Functional industry experience in finance, cybersecurity, operations, sales, marketing, credit/risk, or technology

  • Knowledge of the cybersecurity industry

  • Experience working with UX research techniques

  • CISSP

  • Experience working in management/strategy/technology consulting

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
