At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

In recent years, Netflix's business has expanded well beyond movies and shows. Today it spans Games, Live Events, Podcasts, Advertising, with more to come. Each of these lines of business competes for limited digital real estate on our product surfaces. As part of the Arbitration Marketplace team, you will help Netflix design mechanisms and build tools to balance these competing demands on our discovery surfaces while delivering a best-in-class experience for our members.

We are seeking a Data Scientist with a strong background in marketplace dynamics, experimentation, and causal inference – ideally with experience in ads marketplaces or similar allocation systems. Familiarity with recommendation algorithms, machine learning, and LLMs is a huge plus. You will partner closely with stakeholders working to grow different lines of business within Netflix, as well as Product, Engineering, and AI teams working on our discovery surfaces. This is a greenfield opportunity. You will help translate business needs into scalable tools and solutions. You will join a small team of data scientists where you will own your own problem area and have significant impact. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity and can drive projects end-to-end, from problem framing to production.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop a deep understanding of the value of Netflix's product surfaces and the role they play in our members' discovery experience

  • Design measurement frameworks to evaluate the impact of different content recommendation strategies and develop playbooks that codify best practices

  • Develop advanced measurement solutions that work in marketplace settings

  • Build strong partnerships with Product, Engineering, and business vertical stakeholders to shape how Netflix approaches new content recommendation, from defining new metrics to influencing product strategy

  • Proactively identify high-impact research opportunities, quantify their value, and drive them from concept to implementation

To be successful in this role, you have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience focused on marketplace dynamics, experimentation, and causal inference

  • Experience building and deploying data science solutions at scale

  • Proficiency in Python advanced SQL, as well as GenAI productivity tools

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Passion for driving product vision and innovation strategy by leveraging a broad set of techniques and building strong partnerships with stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and drive your own projects.

  • Embodies Netflix values while bringing a new perspective to continue to improve our culture.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
