The Data Platform Manger is responsible for developing and maintaining the organization’s data platforms to support the organization’s strategic goals. This role will provide leadership to a team of data engineers who design, build and implement data assets that support the enterprise’s analytical needs. This role is expected to have knowledge of traditional and emerging technologies and will be pivotal in the design and deployment of modern solutions that enhance our analytical portfolio.
The manager will be responsible for ongoing support and performance of our platform tools and the maintenance of enterprise data. They will introduce new and transformational technologies to modernize and streamline our analytics landscape; the goal being enable our business, analytics and data science teams to drive results using data. The Data Platform Manager plays an important role on the Actuarial, Data & Analytics leadership team. This person will be a skilled communicator and will collaborate with all levels of management across the organization to ensure resource alignment and focus on achieving business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain robust data architecture and data models that are scalable, reliable, high quality, and resilient, encompassing effective data integration, warehousing, migration and access strategies.
Design and optimize efficient data pipelines that meet data quality standards, ensuing accuracy, consistency, and reliability through the data lifecycle.
Identify and align goals and objectives to support the company’s business plan and implement the department’s vision to streamline data movement and modernize data platforms.
Provide thought leadership in defining data strategy and driving the execution of our initiatives, partnering with stakeholders in data operations, data governance, data science, analytics, IT infrastructure, security and AppDev. This includes defining roadmaps, developing business cases, project plans and resources allocation/alignment.
Plan, design, build and implement scalable data solutions, ensuring environments remail agile and accommodating.
Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to drive valuable insights by empowering the business through increased adoption of new technologies and platforms to meet business needs.
Partner with data governance, corporate compliance and IT security to ensure that data assets are safeguarded and support organizational initiatives in the areas of data retention, governance and security.
Continually learn and implement new technologies and methodologies into the data ecosystem to meet business needs and strategies.
Manage the operationalizing and automating of capabilities to ensure secure, supported and scalable solutions.
Represents Actuarial, Data & Analytics department on select projects and teams to ensure data needs are identified and considered. Collaborate with enterprise architecture, IT security and infrastructure to improve performance and scalability.
Directly manages employees, including interviewing and selection, performance management, coaching, evaluating performance, development, assigning tasks and setting individual expectations and objectives.
Key Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, advanced degree preferred
10+ years of experience in Data Analytics, IT or related area
3+ years management experience preferred
Insurance/Financial Services experience preferred
Experience in some of the following tools, platforms & concepts: Informatica, Oracle, SQL Server, Business Objects, PowerBI, API, SAS, Python/Pyspark, data warehousing, data modeling, data integration concepts/technologies, data lake infrastructure and operations, RPA, data analytics tools, infrastructure and containerized services, version control systems (Github), JavaScript, Data Masking, Encryption/Decryption, setting ETL best practices, familiarity with data lakes DevOps, DataOps, Agile, Performance Optimization, Real-time and batch processing, MDM practices, Metadata Management, Azure, AWS, Cloud data warehouses and pipelines, data ingestion from XML, JSON, Parquet formats, Data Cataloguing tools, data governance frameworks, data quality methodologies
