The Job
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to drive our Data Engineering efforts.  You will lead a team of Data Engineers, own, enhance and update Data Engineering processes and standards, understand company needs, and own and execute critical projects on our Data Engineering roadmap. 
This role sits within our Engineering department and will report directly to our Director of Data Management and Information Security.

What You'll Do

  • Team Leadership and Development (25%)
  • Lead, mentor and coach a team of six Data Engineering professionals, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Establish and continuously improve Data Engineering architecture, processes and standards
  • Ensure team has measurable SMART goals (OKRs); hold yourself and team accountable for performance against these goals
  • Project Management and Delivery (60%)
  • Own successful outcome and positive impact for critical large scale data engineering projects including project management, resource management and communication
  • Mitigate risks and clear blockers
  • Collaborate cross functionally to drive initiatives
  • Own team performance against established SLAs, including visibility into SLA adherence over time
  • Establish and provide visibility for metrics that will identify bottlenecks or other improvement opportunities
  • Roadmap, Strategy (15%)
  • Establish, communicate and maintain a rolling 5 Quarter roadmap for Data Engineering
  • Drive stakeholder alignment on roadmap and prioritization

Who You Are

  • Leadership Abilities: You possess strong leadership skills; you take satisfaction in supporting a team to achieve great things.     You are able to keep a team focused on the most important things.
  • Project Management Expertise: You are skilled at breaking down large, sometimes ambiguous projects into milestones, keeping the team on track, and providing visibility into progress to stakeholders
  • Data Engineering Expertise: You have hands-on experience designing, building and testing data pipelines. You are familiar with Data Engineering best practices, processes and standards. You have a working understanding of IoT data and are familiar with the challenges related to acquisition of time series data from multiple unstandardized sources.
  • Data Architecture Experience: You are comfortable with data architecture and patterns for  both structured and unstructured data.
  • Communication: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.   You excel at cross functional coordination and are able to build consensus.
  • Value Creation: You understand business needs, users, technology, and data, and collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver data solutions that provide business value.
  • Problem-Solving: You demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing effective solutions.

Experience You’ll Need

  • 5+ years experience as a Data Engineer
  • 3+ years experience as a people manager
  • Proficiency at successfully managing large scale data engineering projects
  • Experience with Agile project management
  • Familiarity with distributed systems like Spark, Kafka and data lakes
  • Experience working with time series data
  • Understanding of challenges and best practices working with IoT data 
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure
  • Understanding of data modeling principles
  • Comfortable with object oriented programming languages such as Python
  • Comfortable with SQL

Experience That's a Plus

  • Solar Industry experience
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Experience with RDSExperience directly working with IoT Data Pipelines
  • Experience creating a medallion structure data warehouse
  • Knowledge of Data Governance and Security
  • Experience with Salesforce
