About Shipium

Shipium builds technical infrastructure for complex supply chains.

Modern operators turn to Shipium when they want to turn their supply chain into a strategic value driver. Shipium's platform provides cloud infrastructure and leading AI capabilities that optimize costs and scale automation.

We’re building tech that connects previously fragmented systems and automates complex supply chain decisions to deliver speed and value across operations.

Founded in 2019 by supply chain technology experts from Amazon and Zulily, the company is on a mission to help every eCommerce company provide its customers a great delivery experience while simultaneously reducing their costs to fulfill orders.

About the role

At Shipium, we are building the future of supply chain intelligence. As a Data Engineer, you will be the architect of our data flow, responsible for designing and implementing scalable ETL processes that power our analytics, reporting, and industry-leading Shipping AI. You will convert raw shipping and supply chain data into reliable, accessible information that optimizes platform performance and drives AI-driven product surfaces.

What you'll do

  • Architect Data Pipelines: Build and maintain high-performance pipelines using Airflow, dbt, and Python to organize raw data for analysis, modeling, and product use cases.
  • Power Shipping AI: Partner with Product, Data Science, and ML Engineering to build the infrastructure supporting machine learning workloads, including training datasets, feature pipelines, and model output tables.
  • Optimize Performance: Write production-grade SQL (Amazon Redshift) and manage query optimization to support rapidly growing business needs.
  • Ensure Reliability: Build instrumentation, monitoring, and alerting to guarantee data freshness, quality, and availability in production environments.
  • Innovate Processes: Identify and implement improvements by automating manual tasks and reducing pipeline runtimes.
  • Modern Engineering Practice: Utilize AI-assisted developer tools (like Claude Code) daily to accelerate development and participate in design reviews and on-call rotations.
What You BringTechnical Expertise
  • Data Stack: Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience building orchestration workflows (Airflow preferred) and data transformations (dbt).
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud-based data warehouses (Amazon Redshift) and data lakes (AWS S3).
  • Modern Tooling: Familiarity with DuckDB, pandas, Jupyter, UNIX shell scripting, and Git.
  • ML/AI Readiness: A solid understanding of dimensional modeling and comfort-building data infrastructure that supports AI workloads.
  • Bonus: Exposure to LLM infrastructure patterns (embeddings, vector stores, RAG).
Core Competencies
  • Adaptability: You thrive in environments where you manage competing demands and adapt to evolving technical landscapes.
  • Collaborative Spirit: You focus on solving conflict, listening to others, and contributing to a positive team spirit.
  • Judgment: You exhibit sound reasoning and include the right stakeholders in the decision-making process.
  • Communication: You write and speak clearly, translating complex modeling requirements into reliable data products.

Qualifications

  • Background: Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • Track Record: 2–4 years of related experience in a data engineering role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
