Customer Trust & Data Governance Lead

Location: Westminster, CO or Portland, OR

Department: Trimble Data Management Office (TDMO)

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

Trimble is seeking a highly collaborative and proactive Customer Trust & Data Governance Lead to oversee the governance of data produced by customers while using Trimble's SaaS products. This role will ensure transparency, responsible use, and ethical handling of telemetry, user-generated content (UGC), and product usage data. Acting as the bridge between Product, Legal, Engineering, and the Data Governance team, this role is essential to building customer trust, enabling AI readiness, and ensuring compliance across our product ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish governance policies and controls for customer-generated data, including telemetry, usage events, and user-generated content (UGC) within Trimble’s SaaS products.

  • Work closely with Legal, Security, Privacy, and Product teams to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, AI Act) and contractual obligations.

  • Design and implement frameworks for customer consent, data minimization, and classification of sensitive customer data.

  • Lead metadata documentation and data lineage tracking for in-product customer data flows, from collection to storage, analytics, and model training.

  • Define roles and responsibilities (e.g., domain stewards, data product managers, engineering leads) for governing customer-produced data.

  • Collaborate with the AI Governance Working Group to ensure ethical use of customer-generated data in AI/ML model development and monitoring.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to embed governance by design early in the development lifecycle.

  • Contribute to customer-facing trust narratives by aligning internal data handling practices with Trimble’s external Trust Center messaging.

  • Drive readiness for customer data audits and support data subject access requests (DSARs), compliance reviews, and data risk assessments.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, product data management, privacy, or trust-related roles in a SaaS or tech company.

  • Strong understanding of customer-generated data (telemetry, UGC, in-app data), data lifecycle governance, and responsible AI principles.

  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally with Product, Legal, Privacy, Security, and Engineering teams.

  • Knowledge of regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and global privacy/AI frameworks.

  • Familiarity with metadata management, data catalogs (e.g., Microsoft Purview), and data lineage practices.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience translating technical policies into customer-facing or executive-ready narratives.

  • Ability to influence without authority and drive adoption of data governance practices across business units.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in high-growth SaaS environments or companies with telemetry-rich product portfolios.

  • Hands-on involvement in building or contributing to a customer-facing Trust Center or ethical AI initiative.

  • Understanding of AI model development pipelines and associated data governance risks.

  • Certifications such as CDMP, DCAM, AIGP or similar are a plus.
