About TaxGPT

TaxGPT is revolutionizing the tax and accounting space with AI-driven solutions tailored for accountants, tax professionals, and SMBs. We are building an AI co-pilot to transform tax workflows, drive efficiency, and simplify compliance. Recently named one of Business Insider’s 30 Early-Stage Startups Most Likely to Become Tech’s Next Unicorns, we would love for you to join our growing team.

What You’ll Do

This is a quota-carrying expansion role where you turn a base of firms that already love TaxGPT into our fastest-growing revenue engine. You will own a $50K/month expansion number from Day 1, hunting upsell and cross-sell inside your book of business while protecting it through healthy adoption and on-time renewals. This is not a support role, retention is table stakes; net-new expansion revenue is how you win.

You will own the post-sale customer journey from onboarding and activation through adoption, renewals, and expansion, serving as a trusted advisor who ensures customers realize measurable value from the platform. You will partner closely with product and support to keep accounts healthy, but your calendar, your pipeline, and your comp are built around growth.

Base Salary: $80,000 – $100,000
Variable Comp: $50,000 – $100,000 tied to expansion performance (uncapped commission, no ceiling on top performers)
Total comp: $134,000 – $200,000
Benefits: Medical insurance, Dental, Vision, 401k + 3% match, Life insurance, equity
Travel: Once a quarter to the San Francisco headquarters

What We Are Looking ForRequired Qualifications

  • A documented track record of carrying and hitting a sales quota, 3+ years in a closing role (AE, expansion/growth AE, quota-carrying account manager, or similar). Come ready to talk numbers: quota, attainment, and deal sizes.
  • Proven ability to source, build, and close expansion and upsell revenue in a book of business, not just manage relationships or renew.
  • A hunter’s mentality: comfortable driving urgency, handling objections, negotiating, and asking for the close.
  • Strong discovery and value-selling skills, you can turn a product conversation into a business case and a business case into signed expansion.
  • Comfort operating against a monthly number, with the self-direction to manage your own pipeline and forecast accurately.
  • Proficiency with CRM and sales tooling (e.g., HubSpot) to run pipeline, forecast, and track expansion.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, you can hold a value conversation with a firm owner or managing partner.
  • Proficient with collaboration tools like Slack, Google Workspace, and Fathom.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience selling or expanding in tax, accounting, or financial services.
  • Background in high-growth SaaS, fintech, or startup environments carrying an expansion or new-business quota from Seed Stage to Series A+
  • Experience selling technical or AI-powered products to professional-services buyers.
  • Familiarity with usage and health data to spot and prioritize the highest-propensity expansion accounts.

How We Define Success in This Role

A strong Customer Success Manager in this role:
  • Consistently hits $50K/month in expansion revenue by identifying, building, and closing upsell and cross-sell opportunities across their book.
  • Builds and manages a rigorous expansion pipeline with accurate forecasting, owning their number and knowing their path to it every week.
  • Prospects within existing accounts, finds untapped potential, and builds repeatable systems to execute at scale.
  • Protects and grows the book by driving adoption, proving value, and renewing accounts ahead of cycle.
  • Builds trusted relationships through regular check-ins, success planning, and strategic business reviews that turn healthy accounts into growing ones.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
