As a Security Engineer within PNC’s Technology organization, you may be based in a remote location. This is a remote position. Cryptographic Specialist for Post Quantum Cryptography Strategic Efforts
1. Technical Skills
• Data Security: Expertise in Data Protection techniques and technologies
• Cryptographic Technologies: Working experience with encryption, algorithms, lifecycle management, secure room environments, key ceremonies, and chain of custody.
o Understanding of encryption key solutions for cloud providers(AWS, Azure) and data storage platforms(MSSQL, Oracle, Linux, MongoDB, Pure Storage, NetApp)
o Understanding of key solution connector types: KMIP, BYOK, HYOK, TDE, NAE
o Experience with certificates including certification lifecycle management, troubleshooting, and issuance
• Endpoint Security: Skills in securing end-user devices and understanding endpoint protection tools are a plus.
• Network Security: Understanding of network security protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems are a plus.
• Power BI and Power Automate Experience: Skills in Data Virtualization and Automation are a plus.
• Experience with building a cryptographic bill of materials a plus.
2. Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge
• Understanding of PCI Compliance, FIPS standards and NIST Guidelines for the latest cryptographic standards and initiatives for PQC
• Understanding of cryptographic agility principals
• Working knowledge of cryptographic validation processes for cryptographic modules
3. Soft Skills and Professional Qualities
• Delivery Oriented: The ability to deliver initiatives and Business as Usual (BAU) activities efficiently and effectively.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in configuring and monitoring data security tools and practices.
• Communication: Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work across different teams.
• Adaptability: Ability to stay updated with evolving security threats and technologies.

4. Experience
• Advanced knowledge of Cryptographic solutions to deliver strategic planning; including understanding of algorithms and impact of Quantum computing capabilities
• Incident Response: Experience in handling security incidents, breaches, and mitigating risks.
• Delivery: Proven track record in driving delivery for initiatives and BAU activities.
• Metrics Management: Experience in identifying and developing Metrics, KRIs to support data protection processes.
• Industry Experience: Experience in the industry or sector relevant to your business, such as finance, healthcare, or technology.
5. Tools and Technologies
• Expertise with Cryptographic Systems/Technologies: Thales Network HSMs, Thales CipherTrust Manager, Oracle Key Manager, Swift HSMs, Entrust HSMs, Protegrity, Venafi, and ADCS/PKI
• Familiarity with Data Protection solutions (PowerShell, Microsoft 365 etc.)
• Experience with collaboration tools Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, or ServiceNow
• Experience with dashboarding or visualization products: Tableau, PowerBI
• Advanced knowledge of cryptographic agility tooling: (InfoSec Global, SandboxAQ, Qrypt, QuSecure… etc.)
Additional Experience:
Certifications with vendor specific cryptographic technologies or E|CES ( EC Council’s Certified Encryption Specialist) a plus
Proficient at troubleshooting and analysis of issues via log views
Switch between working in group and independent settings

  • Provides subject matter expertise when applying security concepts. Leverages technical knowledge and industry experience to design, build, and maintain technology solutions. Responsible for deliverables related to project timelines.
  • Responsible for working with architecture to take high level architectural designs and determine the specifics around implementation details (ex: sizing) integration details, onboarding and operationalization.
  • Evaluates patches, updates, and ongoing maintenance. Determines impacts to existing solutions when new standards are implemented. Utilizes change control and other governance processes to ensure alignment of solutions .
  • Develops detailed implementation, configuration, design, and engineering documentation. Build and implement solutions.
  • Works with operational partners to enable transition and day-to-day supportability.
  • Provides engineering support to existing technology in a production environment and collaborating with other groups as required. Seeks opportunities to grow a broad knowledge base to complement specific subject matter expertise.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $65,000.00 – $187,200.00

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
