WHO WE ARE

We’re Hook—an award-winning creative content agency. With a collaborative, maker-centric team, and an emphasis on production-led design, we make ads, campaigns, and experiences that drive growth for the world’s most innovative brands.

Our mission is to integrate creative and production to help grow brands faster. But we believe what’s most important are the people who work with us and the experience they have along the way. We want clients to think of us as the best agency they’ve ever worked with, and we want everyone at Hook to feel like this is the best job they’ve had yet.

WHAT’S A CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT HOOK?

Creative Directors at Hook are hands-on leaders who assume direct accountability for the success of strategic, messaging, and design development of several brand accounts. With an experienced fluency in digital marketing, media, and production they address business needs by leading teams of creatives, designers, animators, writers, and engineers  through a collaborative process toward the goal of generating successful advertising solutions to complex marketing challenges.

Organizationally, Creative Directors are fixed to brand or account groups where they work to build lasting relationships with clients through consistent partnership and continued campaign success. The combination of gained client trust and retained brand knowledge enables them to direct individuals and teams from a position of earned authority.

Operationally, Creative Directors work to ensure the daily success of multiple small teams.  They directly lead development of complex campaigns - oftentimes being the primary source of insightful creative concepts and content.

Day to Day Creative Directors should have a strong background in motion and design and be hands on as needed for projects including: social campaigns, motion graphic videos, pitch decks, branding toolkits, explainer videos and also be fluent in developing copy in the digital space.

While Creative Directors report directly to Executive Creative Director, they act as independent experts who interfacing primarily with the account leadership of their brand group.

This person must be comfortable working around PST hours. Some travel may be required.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Lead (with a very hands-on approach) the development of insightfully driven creative concepts and their production to the point of exceeding client expectations.
  • Partner with a Business Director to lead a team of up to 25 individuals composed of designers, animators, creatives, and producers.
  • Offer mentorship and guidance across all disciplines in regards to individual growth and process improvements
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with all relevant client contacts and become an expert on brand culture, client politics, products, and expectations.
  • Lead the development and presentation of pitch materials for all major and complex campaigns associated with your primary brand and/or potential new clients.
  • Hire, mentor, and manage the success of a functional creative team (copywriters, art directors, and associate creative directors).
  • Ensure and inspire the highest possible quality of all strategic, creative, and design deliverables within the scope of one or more brand relationships.
  • Facilitate creative development by providing detailed direction, feedback and constructive criticism to creative, design, engineering, and motion staff.
  • Work with production and account leadership to evaluate the potential, feasibility, staffing requirements, and timing needs of incoming opportunities.
  • Maintain a positive creative culture through teamwork, leading by example, and promoting creative/company values:
  • Actively meet challenges with a bias toward action.  When others wait for answers, Creatives seek them out or define new ones from informed insights and research.
  • Iterate and overdeliver. Creativity is not a 9-to-5 process, it is a constant push for improvement where each new idea or version is a measurable improvement upon the last.
  • Project a sense of ownership.  As the conceptual leader and driving force behind a project or campaign, a Creative’s enthusiasm and personal investment in excellence is a critical asset for team leadership and a trust-earning behavior from a client’s perspective.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
