About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and pragmatic Corporate Counsel. This position will play a critical role in ensuring compliance across all aspects of our business, with a particular focus on regulations impacting marketing, customer communications, data handling, and insurance partnerships. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, and Business Development teams to proactively mitigate risk and enable compliant innovation in a fast-paced, consumer-centric environment.

This is a hybrid position that requires candidates to be able to come into our Cambridge, MA office.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Provide day-to-day legal guidance on federal and state compliance requirements, including:
  • Design and support implementation of internal policies and procedures to support regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with Compliance and Engineering teams to assess data flows and privacy practices.

Insurance Industry

  • Draft, review, and negotiate carrier partnership agreements, including licensing, commission structures, and data-sharing terms.
  • Advise on advertising claims, savings comparisons, and marketing language involving insurance products to ensure compliance with state insurance laws and advertising standards.
  • Counsel on sales practices and consumer experience, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and ethical standards.
  • Provide guidance on evolving state and federal insurance regulations and support licensure matters as needed.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to internal stakeholders including Marketing, Product, and Sales teams.
  • Support internal training initiatives related to advertising compliance, privacy, and marketing best practices.
  • Assist with regulatory examinations, audits, and responses to inquiries or enforcement actions, as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 6–8 years of relevant legal experience, with a blend of in-house and law firm experience preferred.
  • Significant experience advising on marketing and privacy compliance, including TCPA, CIPA, and data privacy regulations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the insurance industry, especially regarding carrier relationships, advertising review, and sales compliance.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital consumer platforms, fintech, or insurtech companies.
  • Familiarity with state insurance department regulations and NAIC model laws.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly regulated environment.
