Gaining and sustaining this understanding may sometimes involve travel.
  • A key contributor to the envisioning, implementing, supporting, and refining of major core elements of the company’s military/meteorological technology portfolio in a manner consistent with the company’s needs.
  • Staying up to date on the latest advancements in meteorological instruments, software, and methodologies from across the enterprise.
  • Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various observational and forecast data sources in order to provide optimal recommendations on constructing solutions.
  • Collaborating with other scientists as needed for solutions that extend to needs that encompass both military and non-military applications.
  • Developing and testing forecast and decision support methods from in-house and external data to meet the requirements of The Weather Company (TWC) products customized for military needs.
  • Collaborating effectively with other developers and systems engineers so that state-of-the-science algorithms are effectively implemented into TWC products.
  • Describing the science content of TWC products in conferences, symposia, trade shows, and more.
  • Preparing and delivering scientific, technical, or strategy presentations to TWC and external audiences, including clients and partners.
  • Actively facilitating others’ professional development via mentoring or serving in leadership of internal cross-team groups or external professional organizations.
  • Contributing to strategic planning for the long-term success of the company.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What you've accomplished:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ progression of responsibility in an applied meteorological or technical position, ideally with at least four of those years in the military.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in several relevant sciences and technologies, including meteorology, computing, data science, AI, and/or systems architecture.
  • Proven track record in conceiving pragmatic, cutting-edge weather-related technologies that materially advance the science.
  • Ability to anticipate science and technology trends, and proactively help ensure the company leverages emerging relevant capabilities quickly and appropriately.
  • Be widely recognized as a go-to leader in weather science and/or related technologies both inside and outside of the company.
  • Visceral passion for envisioning, elaborating, developing, optimizing, and reducing to practice pragmatic, world-class, state-of-the-science weather technologies both as an individual contributor and leader.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical and computational methods in meteorology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strong contributor to a product team
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and software used in meteorological research. Ideally, skills with deep learning and use of AI programming tools.
