As part of Root's interview process, we kindly ask that all candidates be on camera for virtual interviews. This helps us create a more personal and engaging experience for both you and our interviewers. Being on camera is a standard requirement for our process and part of how we assess fit and communication style, so we do require it to move forward with any applicant's candidacy. If you have any concerns, feel free to let us know once you are contacted. We’re happy to talk it through.
At Root, we’re harnessing technology to create a smarter, fairer car insurance experience. As we continue to grow, we’re focused on optimizing every step of the digital customer journey — starting with the top of the funnel.
We’re looking for a Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Manager to own and scale our experimentation strategy across Root’s marketing website and adjacent conversion surfaces. This role combines strategic thinking, hands-on testing, and program leadership to improve conversion, streamline user journeys, and turn casual visitors into confident customers.
You’ll be the architect and operator of our CRO program — building processes, managing cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring every test drives measurable impact. You'll work closely with Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Creative to prioritize needle-moving work, including high-impact initiatives like monetizing unbound traffic, experimentation strategy for ad placements, and laying the foundation for scalable testing across the marketing website.
If you thrive on experimentation, love data-backed decision making, and know how to bring structure to chaos, this is your opportunity to build something lasting from the ground up.
Root is a “work where it works best” company. This means we support you working wherever works best for you across the U.S.
Salary Range (Bonus + LTI Eligible): $131,000 - $163,000
How You Will Make an ImpactLead the strategy, execution, and day-to-day program management of Root’s CRO efforts across website

Develop and manage a prioritized backlog of experiments aligned to company goals, including experiments that expand monetization (e.g., ad quote placement tests)
Build and maintain an experiment intake, triage, and reporting process that creates visibility and velocity across teams
Own implementation and operational use of experimentation tools (e.g., Optimizely), including setup, QA, and documentation
Embed into agile sprint planning and review cycles, setting clear expectations and coordinating dependencies across Product, Marketing, Creative, and Engineering
Design and run experiments that generate insights to inform Root’s upcoming rebranding efforts, helping shape messaging, layout, and value positioning
Regularly communicate progress, learnings, and roadmaps to cross-functional stakeholders through bi-weekly updates and performance reviews
Collaborate with Analytics to ensure we have accurate baselines, dashboards, and mechanisms to evaluate success
Establish best practices and documentation that help scale experimentation across the org
5+ years of experience in growth marketing, website optimization, or conversion rate optimization roles
Proven ability to lead structured experimentation programs and manage them as a cross-functional initiative
Experience with tools like Optimizely Google Analytics, and other A/B testing or personalization platforms
Strong project management skills— able to prioritize, multitask, and keep tests moving across multiple surfaces
Comfortable building no-code/low-code experiments and collaborating with design and engineering to scale implementation
Analytical mindset with the ability to turn metrics into strategic recommendations
Confident communicator who can set clear priorities, influence stakeholders, and manage expectations across teams
Strategic thinker who can balance experimentation velocity with business impact
Preferred: Background in product-led growth or DTC conversion funnels
Preferred: Ability to flex into organic growth strategy, SEO testing, and blog/social content experimentation
Preferred: Ability to inform product monetization strategy using test results (e.g., LTV vs. CPC tradeoffs)
