As a Field Designer, you will work within established guidelines to generate HVAC control systems hardware designs and software programming to meet project requirements. You’ll provide detailed information and submittals to communicate system design and operation to customers, consultants, Johnson Controls field installation teams, and subcontractors.
In this role, you will:

Make use of standard design library to select hardware designs, as required, for: flow diagrams; sequence of operations; bill of material; network layouts; and electrical schematics.

Use established standards as a design basis in performing software programming.

Coordinate creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.

Select, order, and track delivery of materials for assigned projects; coordinate factory-mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule.

Assist in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers, as required.

Assist in validation of system functionality; troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.

Gather field changes from the project team and create as-built drawings and software.

Proactively communicate with management and JCI contractor to ensure work is completed in a timely manner, to the highest standard, and in keeping with customer expectations; promptly report problems or changes to management.

Prepare proper documentation and/or manuals for system operation, as required; assist in conducting site-specific customer training on systems operation.

Complete job-specific paperwork including time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation.

Respond to basic warranty calls.

Adhere to all Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, demonstrating a high degree of safety awareness for all Johnson Controls employees and worksite-based subcontractors.

Required Qualifications

University degree and 1-year minimum experience, or 2-year degree and 6 years minimum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills/Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 1-year minimum experience, or 2-year degree and 6 years minimum experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3 years related experience installing and/or commissioning controls systems (including system-level controllers).

Demonstrated technical aptitude, including in-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.

Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-based drafting tools.
