What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a seasoned Controller/Assistant Controller to lead our accounting function, implement scalable systems, and ensure financial integrity as we transition to a globally operating company. This person will be a key partner across finance, legal, tax, project delivery, and international operations.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process in partnership with external accounting firm
- Prepare internal and board-level financials in accordance with GAAP
- Lead technical accounting, including project-level revenue recognition, capitalized R&D, and equity accounting
Systems & Controls
- Implement and manage scalable systems for GL, AP, AR, and fixed assets
- Maintain and improve internal controls and documentation to support future audit readiness
Tax, Audit, and Compliance
- Oversee tax compliance (US and international), including entity structuring and transfer pricing
- Manage external auditors, tax advisors, and third party consultants
- Support state, federal, and international compliance filings
Operations & International
- Coordinate accounting for SPVs, JVs, and HoldCos in key international markets
- Support project finance activities, including tracking capex, opex, and milestone spend
Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner cross functionally with Legal, Engineering, and Commercial to ensure financial alignment with project execution
- Build and mentor a lean accounting team
- Report regularly to leadership on key metrics, risks, and forecasts
Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent required
- 8+ years experience, ideally including time in both public accounting and a high-growth startup
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, SaaS/hardware hybrid models, and multi-entity consolidation
- Experience with international operations, project accounting, and audit readiness
- Systems-oriented (we use QuickBooks now, but planning for Netsuite or equivalent)
- Low ego, high ownership, and high attention to detail

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California is expected in the range below.
$160,000-$200,000 USD plus stock options, commensurate with experience.
