The Contract Senior Drupal Developer works closely with 829 Studios’ client services and project teams to architect, build, and maintain Drupal websites for a wide range of clients. This role blends hands-on technical execution with strategic consultation, combining deep Drupal expertise with collaboration across disciplines to deliver performant, accessible, and visually polished web experiences.

  • Develop and customize Drupal themes to precisely match design specifications and ensure responsiveness across devices.
  • Implement and maintain custom modules, views, and content types tailored to client requirements.
  • Manage site migrations and deployments, ensuring stability, performance, and SEO integrity.
  • Maintain Drupal core and contributed modules, ensuring security and compatibility.

Performance, Accessibility & Integrations

  • Optimize sites for speed, scalability, and accessibility compliance.
  • Integrate Drupal with RESTful APIs and third-party tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or Google Tag Manager.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve front-end and backend issues with precision and clear communication.

Collaboration & Consulting

  • Work with Account Managers, Project Managers, Designers, and other team members to translate business goals into technical solutions.
  • Participate in technical planning, estimating, and documentation for new projects.
  • Provide guidance on Drupal best practices, site architecture, and maintainability considerations.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth deployments and stable releases.
What You'll Bring:
  • 10+ years of professional web development experience, with a strong focus on Drupal.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining custom Drupal websites (themes, modules, configuration, and deployment).
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Deep understanding of Drupal site building, configuration management, and content modeling.
  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks and CSS libraries (e.g., Tailwind).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization best practices.
  • Experience integrating Drupal with APIs and third-party services.
  • Ability to translate design files (Figma, Adobe, etc) into pixel-perfect, responsive themes.
  • DevOps abilities to perform basic server diagnostic and maintenance tasks e.g. debugging a caching problem or importing a database.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with headless Drupal or decoupled CMS approaches is a plus.

Hourly Rate Range: $35-$55/hour
We determine compensation based on experience, demonstrated skills, and current market conditions at the time of hire to ensure fairness and consistency across roles. Actual compensation will depend on experience and may be adjusted based on skills, qualifications, and alignment with the scope and impact of the role.
