✍️ Content Creator (Copy Writer), Thera (NYC preferred, US-only)

Thera is building the financial OS for modern SMBs. Payroll, payments, treasury, spend, accounting, and docs in one system that actually works end-to-end.

We're looking for our first dedicated Content Creator (Copy Writer) to own how Thera sounds everywhere a customer meets us the site, the emails, the launches, the product itself.

This is a writing role, not a strategy role. You'll ship copy every week, get direct edits from the founder, and see your work go live in days, not quarters.

📍 NYC preferred, in-person. US-only. 💰 $70,000–$90,000 📈 0–3 years experience. New grads with a strong portfolio welcome.

Why this role exists

We have:

  • a product customers use and refer

  • a roadmap shipping faster than we can describe it

  • categories of copy nobody currently owns

  • an audience that should be bigger than it is

What you'll own

  • Voice and messaging across the entire funnel - site, email, product, sales, social, etc.

  • Website and landing pages, including the comparison pages that win migrations from Deel, Gusto, and Rippling

  • Launch copy for new products and features

  • Ghostwriting for founders and execs, in their voice, not yours

What you'll write

  • Copy for the website

  • Announcement copy for what we ship next

  • Blog posts and country guides that pull in founders searching for real answers

  • Sales collateral, one-pagers, and partner-facing material

  • Social posts that sound like a person, not a brand account

  • Occasional video scripts and hooks

  • Threads and carousels people save and send to their cofounder

Your first 90 days

30 days

  • Learn the product cold - get inside the workflows, read support tickets, sit in on customer calls

  • Audit every page and email and tell us what's weakest

  • Ship a rewrite of one high-traffic page

  • Build social media post's in Thera's voice during your first week

60 days

  • Own the copy on a product launch end to end

  • Publish your first customer story and first SEO piece

  • Draft the voice and style guide

  • Get one repeatable short-form format off the ground - scripted, shot, shipped

90 days

  • Anything customer-facing runs through you by default

  • Measurable lift on the pages and sequences you've rewritten

  • A content cadence that holds without anyone chasing it

  • An audience growing without paid spend behind it

About you

  • You write clearly. You cut adjectives, kill throat-clearing intros, prefer a number to a claim. Wildly concise.

  • Your portfolio is better than your résumé. Published work, spec pieces, a newsletter, a well-argued post - show us range.

  • You get curious about unglamorous things. Multi-state tax filings and FX spreads will be your subject matter.

  • You revise without ego. Radical candor cuts both ways here.

  • You're fast. Several pieces a week, not one polished essay a month.

  • You self-direct. Nobody is handing you a fully briefed assignment every morning.

  • You've built something in public - an account, a newsletter, a channel - and can tell us what it did

  • You know why one post lands and the next one dies, and you're honest about the ones that died

Nice to have

  • B2B SaaS, fintech, or HR-tech experience

  • You've changed your writing because of what a funnel or search console told you

  • A real point of view on where AI helps writing and where it flattens it

  • Basic video editing - CapCut, Descript, Premiere, whatever gets it out the door

  • You've written in someone else's voice and nobody could see the seam

  • Comfortable close to camera, whether or not you're in front of it

Not a fit if

  • You want to manage a content team instead of writing

  • You need a full brief before you can start

  • You think fintech copy has to be long

  • You want to write one thing a month and polish it forever

  • You think social is beneath the craft

Why Thera

  • You define the voice of a company at the point where it's still up for grabs

  • You work directly with the executives

  • You'll see what you wrote change the numbers within the week

  • You build an audience with a real product behind it, not a content farm

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
