What You’ll Bring
Required:
- BS/MS in environmental studies, natural resources, planning, geography, civil/environmental engineering, or related field. Or equivalent experience.
- 8–12+ years of consulting experience with state/local agencies and multi-media permitting.
- Proven ability to develop long-term client relationships and deliver new permitting consulting services.
- Deep knowledge of environmental permitting requirements and impact assessment issues in power and oil/gas sectors.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and influencing skills.
Preferred:
- Professional certifications (PWS, PE, CEP, AICP or similar).
- Experience with Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, New England General Permits, and local land development regulations.
- Renewable energy permitting experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Senior Technical Advisor for permitting-related activities in support of ERM clients’ capital projects (i.e., renewable energy projects, electric and gas utilities).
- Lead the strategic planning and preparation of permit packages, serving in roles ranging from subject matter expert to QA/QC.
- Manage a portfolio of complex capital development projects to achieve client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
- Develop and expand client relationships to generate repeat business and new opportunities.
- Prepare and review technical proposals and permit packages with precision and strategic insight.
- Mentor and grow ERM’s technical team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Partner with ERM’s global practitioners to deliver best-in-class impact assessment solutions.

For the Consulting Director, Permitting Specialist position, the anticipated annual base pay is $147,670 – $173,400 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability, AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and other applicable benefits to eligible employees.
Note: Bonuses, commissions, and other forms of additional compensation are not guaranteed and subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures.
