Contract Community Editor & Strategist 

3-month contract with potential to extend
$25/hour, 40 hours a week
Remote-friendly (LA or NYC office optional)

BuzzFeed is seeking a Contract Community Editor & Strategist to join our dynamic team. This role blends editing, creator success, community management, and digital publishing strategy. You'll work closely with BuzzFeed's most passionate creators, helping them produce their best work while fostering an engaged, welcoming Community both on and off the site. This role is perfect for someone who loves internet culture, online communities, and helping creators succeed.

What You'll Do

As a Community Editor & Strategist, you'll help shape the future of BuzzFeed Community by editing high-quality user-generated content while building relationships with the creators behind it. You'll work closely with the Community Strategy team to grow our creator ecosystem and ensure contributors have the tools and feedback they need to thrive.

You will:

  • Edit submissions from the BuzzFeed Community Creator Program (BFCCP), ensuring they meet BuzzFeed's editorial standards for quality, accuracy, and style.
  • Partner directly with Community Creators by providing thoughtful editorial feedback, coaching, and best practices to help them improve their content over time.
  • Foster an active, welcoming creator community by engaging with contributors in our Discord server, answering questions, encouraging participation, and building relationships.
  • Moderate Community content and comments to maintain a positive, inclusive environment.
  • Curate standout Community content by identifying posts with strong editorial or viral potential.
  • Use traffic and engagement data to inform editorial decisions and surface content that resonates with readers.
  • Collaborate with BuzzFeed's Audience Development and Editorial teams on creator initiatives, publishing strategy, and special projects.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve creator education, onboarding, and overall program success.

You Have:

  • A deep love for internet culture, fandom, and online communities.
  • Excellent editing, grammar, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to deliver thoughtful, constructive feedback to creators.
  • Experience building relationships with online communities or creators.
  • An understanding of what makes BuzzFeed-style content engaging and shareable.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfort working independently while collaborating across editorial and audience teams.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and digital publishing workflows.
  • Interest in audience development, analytics, SEO, and social strategy is a plus.

Bonus Points For:

  • Previous experience editing user-generated or creator-produced content.
  • Experience managing online communities, including Discord servers, forums, or creator programs.
  • Experience with social media community management, including responding to comments and engaging audiences across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or Twitter/X. 
  • Experience working with creators or influencers.
