Job Summary:The Solutions Specialist for OpenGov’s Community Operations product partners with local governments to modernize and optimize resident-facing services, including permitting, licensing, inspections, code enforcement, GIS-driven asset management, and public works operations. This role develops deep expertise in municipal workflows, geospatial data applications, and infrastructure lifecycle management to align OpenGov’s technology with real-world government challenges.
By combining operational knowledge with technical fluency, the Solutions Specialist designs solutions that improve regulatory compliance, enhance service delivery, strengthen capital planning, and increase transparency for residents and businesses.
Responsibilities:Conduct comprehensive technical discovery sessions with municipal leaders, planners, public works directors, and IT teams to identify challenges related to: Permit intake and review workflows, licensing and compliance tracking, GIS asset mapping and infrastructure visibility, and capital improvement planning and lifecycle forecasting.
Design tailored solution proposals demonstrating how OpenGov’s platform integrates: GIS mapping and spatial data visualization, online permitting and licensing portals, asset inventory tracking and preventative maintenance planning, and workflow automation for inspections and code enforcement
Deliver customized product demonstrations showcasing
Translate complex geospatial and operational workflows into clear technical solutions
Build technical champions within planning, engineering, and public works departments by articulating how GIS-integrated workflows improve efficiency and accountability.
Identify and recommend proof-of-concept opportunities
Contribute to RFP/RFQ technical responses, specifically addressing requirements
Partner closely with Professional Services to ensure seamless transition from sales to deployment
Provide structured feedback to Product and R&D teams on GIS functionality, permitting enhancements, asset management scalability, and competitive positioning in the GovTech market.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required, preferably equivalent to or aligned with Public Administration, Civil Engineering, GIS, Accounting, Community Development, or Urban Planning
Minimum of 2 years of related experience in Sales or Solution Engineering; advanced degrees may substitute for experience
2+ years in solutions engineering, asset/infrastructure management, GIS, or permitting, or ERP solutions.
Experience coding in CSS preferred
Knowledge of government accounting and/or finance is strongly preferred
Strong ability to learn, understand, and communicate complex technical concepts and develop skills to create compelling solutions that demonstrate business value
Effective presentation and relationship-building skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Civic engagement experience is highly desirable
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
Compensation:
$100,000 - $110,000
On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.
The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
