We’re looking for an expert in growing online communities, and building engagement by grabbing the mic and driving the conversation. The person in this role will know how to get folks excited about what they can make, by producing content that inspires, educates, and provokes. The Community & Developer Marketing Manager will need to authentically engage across audiences: bringing Descript into the AI hypecycle, and communities of practice where marketers, L&D professionals, and other experts gather to explore tools and best practices.
What You’ll Do- Build and execute a social strategy that will engage both technical and creative audiences, in order to grow our reach and the depth of our online conversations
- Develop the strategy and operations to manage Descript’s social media channels and continuously engage with our community to learn, support, and spark conversation
- Across copywriting, visuals, and videos, be a one-person show who can create and publish content that educates, inspires, and engages— demos, product walk-throughs, customer successes, and more
- Engage with the influential voices in AI and video, so that Descript is in every conversation we want to be part of
- Build and maintain a social listing machine so that you can catch emergent trends and capitalize on them; and find opportunities to increase Descript’s share of voice
- Collaborate across teams (Product Marketing, Community, Support) to amplify launches and customer stories
- Experiment with formats, track performance, and use data to drive campaign decisions
- Be an internal voice of the customer, to help guide roadmaps and approaches in Product, Marketing, and Support
- A proven track record of growing social audiences for a tech-forward product or platform
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with a voice that feels authentic and energizing
- Technical fluency—you don’t have to code, but you should feel at home around AI tools and developer workflows
- Hands-on content creation skills (think: recording demos, writing how-tos, or editing short clips)
- A builder’s mindset: excited to test, learn, and evolve new approaches
- Ability to resonate with both AI builders and people who need to make videos for work—you understand what excites them and what problems they’re trying to solve
- Familiarity with Descript or other video/audio editing tools
- Comfortable being on camera or interested in growing a public creator presence
The base salary range for this role is $93,000 - $125,000. Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise, and location, and they may vary from the amount above.
Descript is building a simple, intuitive, fully-powered editing tool for video and audio — an editing tool built for the age of AI. We are a team of 150 — with a proven CEO and the backing of some of the world's greatest investors (OpenAI, Andreessen Horowitz, Redpoint Ventures, Spark Capital).
Descript is the special company that's in possession of both product market fit and the raw materials (passionate user community, great product, large market) for growth, but is still early enough that each new employee has a measurable influence on the direction of the company.
Benefits include a generous healthcare package, catered lunches, and flexible vacation time. Our headquarters are located in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA. We're looking to hire people who are local and able to join us at the office when needed. We're flexible, and you're an adult—we don't expect or mandate that you're in the office every day. But we do believe there are valuable and serendipitous moments of discovery and collaboration that come from working together in person.
Descript is an equal opportunity workplace—we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status. We believe in actively building a team rich in diverse backgrounds, experiences, and opinions to better allow our employees, products, and community to thrive.
