Inngest is a developer-focused platform that helps engineers build reliable workflows with ease. We’re looking for a Communications Designer to join our team and shape a brand that developers love. If you’re proactive, creative, and excited to collaborate with a team building the best developer experience (DX), this role is for you.

The Role

You’ll be the designer behind Inngest’s visual identity, working closely with marketing and the broader team to craft a cohesive brand experience across all channels. From the website to event graphics, you’ll be defining how the world sees and feels our brand.

You’ll work on a variety of projects, all aimed at making Inngest’s brand engaging for developers. You’ll join a small, passionate team of designers, engineers, and marketers who care deeply about building products with best-in-class developer experience (DX) that developers deserve and love.

  • This is a US-based remote role. We're remote first, with a few folks working together in-person in SF.

What You’ll Do
  • Design Web Pages & Marketing Assets: Create pages for Inngest’s marketing website, docs, and design various marketing assets like blog graphics, technical illustrations, social media visuals, and emails. Your designs will help communicate how Inngest solves long-standing developer problems in a novel way, making complex ideas accessible and engaging

  • Maintain & Evolve the Brand: Uphold Inngest’s brand guidelines and evolve them as needed. You’ll ensure every design (big or small) feels like Inngest, while keeping things fresh and modern.

  • Collaborate with Marketing: Work hand-in-hand with our marketing team to design content that resonates. From landing pages to campaigns, you’ll ensure our brand voice is consistent and developer-friendly..

  • Create Event Graphics & Decks: Design graphics for events, webinars, and internal presentations. You’ll craft visual stories that excite developers — from conference slides to community meetups.

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with the founders, engineers, and our design lead. You’ll be at the intersection of marketing and product, ensuring our brand experience is seamless everywhere — on the website, in our docs, and even inside our app UI.

What You Need to Succeed
  • Design Skills: Proficiency in Figma and Illustrator is a must. You know how to create clean, modern designs and can iterate quickly based on feedback.

  • Developer Empathy: You don’t need to be a coder, but you should appreciate and understand our audience (developers). Maybe you’ve worked on dev tools before, or you’re just great at asking questions and a willingness to understand technical content.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain design decisions and collaborate in a remote environment using Slack, Zoom, Notion, etc.

  • Proactive Attitude: You’re a self-starter who loves to take ownership. Have an idea to improve the brand or try a new design trend? We want to hear it!

  • Animation (Bonus): Experience with After Effects or web animations is a plus. Imagine adding subtle animations to a web page to make it more engaging for developers — that’s what we love.

What Your First 90 Days Will Look Like
  • First Week: Get to know our team and how we work. You’ll dive into our brand guidelines, explore existing design assets, and learn about our developer audience. Expect lots of “hello’s” on Slack and a friendly onboarding to our design files.

  • By Day 30: You’ll be fully integrated into our weekly workflow. You might have already designed a new section for the marketing website or created graphics for a blog post. You’ll understand our product, our users (developers!), and our marketing strategy deeply enough to start contributing new ideas.

  • By Day 90: You’ll have led the design for a significant project – perhaps a reskin of our documentation site or a launch campaign for a new feature. Your designs will be live, making an impact on how developers perceive Inngest. You’ll also have contributed to our design system (like adding new components or guidelines) ensuring consistency across all channels. At this point, we’re all aligned and excited about how we work together!

Why Inngest?
  • Developer-Focused Mission: Everything we do is for developers. As a Brand Designer, you’ll help make complex, technical concepts feel approachable and exciting. Your work will attract and inspire the developers who use our platform.

  • Small & Impactful Team: You’ll be joining a tight-knit team of ~20 people. No red tape, no layers of bureaucracy — just a group of passionate people building something big together.

  • Growth & Learning: As an early design hire, you’ll have a broad scope and the chance to wear many hats. Interested in UX or product design? You’ll get exposure to that too, working alongside our product designer and engineers.

  • Competitive Benefits: We offer competitive salary, equity, health/dental/vision (US), 4 weeks vacation (plus local holidays), a new MacBook Pro, and more. We believe in taking care of our team.

How to Apply

If you’re excited to design for a brand that developers love, we’d love to hear from you! Apply with:

  • Your resume.

  • A brief note on why you’d like to join Inngest.

  • Portfolio or examples of your design work (especially branding or marketing design).

  • Your location/time zone (so we know how you’ll overlap with ET).

We can’t wait to see your creativity and welcome you to the team! Let’s build a brand that developers around the world adore 🎨✨.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
