About the role:

We’re seeking a sharp, business-minded Commercial Counsel to join our growing legal team as our third legal hire. This is a unique opportunity to shape legal processes in a high-growth, cutting-edge AI company. You will work closely with Sales, Customer Success, Product, and Security teams to support and scale our commercial contracting function, while also helping manage risk across a wide array of legal areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate, draft, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including MSAs, NDAs, SOWs, order forms, and reseller agreements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Sales, Finance, Product, InfoSec) to streamline the contract lifecycle and support business objectives.
  • Provide practical legal advice on data privacy (including GDPR, CCPA, and other global frameworks), security, and customer compliance matters.
  • Build and refine internal playbooks, templates, and processes to improve speed and consistency in deal execution.
  • Help drive compliance, policy development, and legal operations initiatives.
  • Support a wide variety of legal matters beyond commercial work, including vendor agreements, product counseling, employment, and corporate governance as needed.

Qualifications We Value:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 2–5 years of legal experience, with a strong foundation in negotiating complex commercial technology agreements; in-house experience at a SaaS or AI company preferred.
  • Deep understanding of data privacy and regulatory frameworks affecting tech businesses.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a practical, business-friendly approach to legal advice.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities; able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable operating autonomously while collaborating across teams

Perks & Benefits:

  • We offer Cresta employees a variety of medical, dental, and vision plans, designed to fit you and your family’s needs
  • Flexible vacation time to promote a healthy work-life blend
  • Paid parental leave to support you and your family
  • Monthly Gym & Phone allowance
  • Work from home office stipend to help you succeed in a remote environment
  • Lunches and dinners included for in-office employees via Grubhub

Compensation:

Compensation for this position includes a base salary, equity, and a variety of benefits. Actual base salaries will be based on candidate-specific factors, including experience, skillset, and location, and local minimum pay requirements as applicable. Your recruiter can provide further details.

We have noticed a rise in recruiting impersonations across the industry, where scammers attempt to access candidates' personal and financial information through fake interviews and offers. All Cresta recruiting email communications will always come from the @cresta.ai domain. Any outreach claiming to be from Cresta via other sources should be ignored.  If you are uncertain whether you have been contacted by an official Cresta employee, reach out to [email protected]

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
