The Cloud Operations Engineering Manager leads the cloud infrastructure team, overseeing operations, architecture, automation, and team management in AWS and Azure environments.
We are seeking a hands-on Cloud Operations Engineering Manager to lead and scale our cloud infrastructure team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations, architecture, and continuous improvement of our cloud environments in AWS and Azure. You will work closely with our Digital Platform and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, performance, and security of our cloud-based systems.
As both a technical leader and people manager, you will own the core cloud infrastructure-including network topology, IAM/CIAM, observability, logging, and telemetry-and drive best practices in cloud architecture, automation, and operational excellence. This role blends individual contribution with team leadership, making it ideal for a senior engineer ready to lead or a current manager eager to stay close to the technology.
This role will report to the leader of Infrastructure and Operations.

This position is currently part of Boeing but is planned to transition to an independent company owned by Thoma Bravo, as part of a pending divestiture of the Digital Aviation Solutions organization. If you are selected for this role, your employment may initially be with Boeing (dependent on start date). Subject to final regulatory approvals and closing conditions, your employment may transfer to the divested business owned by Thoma Bravo at close. Key Responsibilities:
- Designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and scalable cloud environments across platforms
- Optimizing cloud infrastructure for cost and performance
- Managing, mentoring, and providing technical guidance to cloud engineers, developers, and development team partners
- Collaborate with senior management to define cloud infrastructure roadmaps and resource allocation
- Oversee team management activities, including recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members
- Cultivate a high-performing and cohesive team environment
- Develop and implement team goals and objectives, aligning them with the broader organizational strategy
- Ability to quickly detect, diagnose, and resolve problems to minimize downtime and ensure system stability
- Implement automation tools and CI/CD pipelines to streamline operations, deployments, and system updates
- Respond to infrastructure incidents, resolve issues quickly, and provide reports on root causes and resolution strategies
- Contribute to cloud strategy discussions, and decisions on overall cloud design and best approach for implementing cloud solutions
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with a significant focus on cloud architecture and engineering
- 3+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams
- Expertise in both AWS and Azure
- Experience with monitoring tools like CloudWatch and Azure Monitor
- Ability to quickly detect, diagnose, and resolve problems to minimize downtime and ensure system stability
- Deep understanding of cloud components and services
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Terraform
- Experience scaling up high-performing teams
- Background in cloud cost optimization
- Proven success in managing multi-cloud environments or cloud platform migrations
- Pilot or aviation enthusiast
