The Team

Cloud Efficiency and Analytics is part of Datadog’s internal infrastructure team and is responsible for all things cloud cost related. This position is part of Data Projects - a niche group focused on high leverage research and initiatives within our infrastructure spend.

Projects will vary - whether it’s modeling Datadog’s infrastructure costs as we grows across clouds, devising a strategy to leverage the newest cloud discount instruments, or using observability and orchestration data to find the easiest places to reduce spend. We spend plenty of time thinking about Datadog today and Datadog five years from now. 


You will

  • Work closely with the Cloud Efficiency and Analytics Organization, as well as company leaders, to drive high visibility projects and guide investments with quantitative analysis
  • Learn about monitoring billions of containers per day, across multi clouds, with trillions of events per hour, and how that translates to cloud infrastructure costs
  • Wield spreadsheets, spark jobs, and ML algorithms to get insight into data and trends for the business. 
  • Build models and test them against reality 
  • Iterating on solving hard problems, taking small steps to break down big questions and gain confidence in your answers
  • Collaborate across the organization, meeting with senior engineering leadership and engineers on any team at Datadog.

You are

  • Passionate about taking detailed oriented work to completion
  • High ownership. Your work doesn’t stop at the end of a single jira ticket, you develo
  • p domain expertise and contribute across organizational boundaries
  • Have several years of Python and SQL experience.
  • Ambiguity is comfortable - you like iterating and starting somewhere when it’s not clear where to begin tackling a large problem.
  • You understand the major cloud providers' product offerings and how engineers use them, with experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Love thinking about how to optimize stuff, especially the bottom line.
  • You have excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in collaborating outside of your direct team.
  • Have done a fair bit of data science, data visualization, and some statistics.
  • Not strong in all areas; but able to immediately contribute in one of - financial analysis, cloud billing, cloud infrastructure analysis, or data engineering / data science.
  • You have a BS/MS/PhD in a Computer Science, Engineering or related scientific field or equivalent experience
