Job Description:

Position Summary

The Cloud Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping Ryder’s cloud strategy and operational excellence. This individual will lead the design, governance, and implementation of scalable, secure, and automated cloud solutions across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership to drive innovation and efficiency across Ryder’s cloud and on-prem platforms.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Cloud Governance Leadership: Define and evolve Ryder’s cloud governance framework to ensure alignment with enterprise security standards and compliance requirements.
  • Platform Engineering Leadership: Lead the Platform Engineering function with a focus on building and maintaining a resilient, scalable, and secure infrastructure. Drive the development of reusable infrastructure components, automation frameworks, and standardized deployment pipelines. Ensure seamless integration with enterprise systems such as ServiceNow, CMDB, and monitoring platforms.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product teams, engineers, leadership, and enterprise architects to align cloud strategies with business goals and technical frameworks.
  • Technical Advisory: Provide expert guidance on cloud-native tools, service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and architectural best practices to development and business teams.
  • Reliability Engineering: Promote a culture of resilience by designing self-healing systems with robust monitoring, alerting, and error-handling capabilities.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the Platform Engineering team, fostering a high-performance culture and continuous learning environment.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and enforcement of cloud reference architecture standards across Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud-native tools and services across providers to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to implement consistent governance policies across all cloud platforms.
  • Drive automation of change management and deployment pipelines across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Optimize cloud spend through continuous monitoring, rightsizing, and reserved instance planning across Azure, AWS, GCP, and OCI.
  • Oversee the integration of cloud services with enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow, AppDynamics, Datadog, and CMDB systems.
  • Support the implementation of disaster recovery and high availability strategies tailored to each cloud provider’s capabilities.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends across all major cloud platforms and assess their applicability to Ryder’s infrastructure roadmap.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support enterprise cloud transformation initiatives.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proven ability to engage in both technical deep dives and strategic discussions with senior leadership.
  • Strong background in system administration, particularly with Microsoft core applications and operating systems.
  • Expertise in Azure cloud security, governance, and compliance frameworks; familiarity with AWS, GCP, and OCI security models.
  • Experience designing and managing monitoring and alerting solutions (e.g., AppDynamics, Datadog).
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working within Scrum teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Strong conflict resolution and facilitation skills.
  • Hands-on experience with IaaS components including VMs, storage, autoscaling, and networking across multiple cloud providers.
  • Self-motivated, quick learner with the ability to adapt to evolving business and technical landscapes.
  • Creative problem-solver with a track record of delivering innovative solutions under pressure.
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and drive transformational change.
  • Flexible and adaptable to shifting roles and responsibilities as needed.
  • Results-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business, Engineering, Technology or a relevant degree
  • Master's degree preferred in Business, Engineering, Technology or a relevant degree
  • Ten (10) years or more in software development, software engineering, and platform architecture required
  • Five (5) years or more in designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across multiple compute nodes required
  • Five (5) years or more experience in managing and leading operations teams. required
  • Three (3) years or more in providing technical leadership (architect, senior team lead, engineering manager) required
  • Three (3) years or more Expert Scripting Knowledge with tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, etc. required

Compensation Information:

The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s relevant experience; education, including relevant degrees or certifications; work location; market data/ranges; internal equity; internal salary ranges; etc. The position may also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on the level and/or type. Compensation ranges for the position are below:

Pay Type:

Salaried

Minimum Pay Range:

$130,000.00

Maximum Pay Range:

$150,000.00
