Overview

Instacart is looking for a Director level Chief of Staff to support the CTO.

A successful Chief of Staff will be organized, have a technical background, strong in project management, able to shift seamlessly between strategic counsel and smaller daily tasks, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. This person should be a team player and eager to work in a fast-paced and high-expectations environment. They will support a large organization of 1,200+ engineers.

This person will manage preparation for a variety of internal meetings, act as a strategic counsel to cross-functional partners, and manage internal technical operations. They will contribute to strategic technical projects and initiatives that involve liaising with functions within the CTO’s scope and across the company.

About the Role 

As Chief of Staff to Instacart’s CTO, you will be at the heart of shaping the future of technology in redefining how people connect with food. In this strategic role, you’ll act as a trusted partner to the CTO, driving operational excellence, aligning priorities, and ensuring seamless execution of key initiatives. You’ll play a critical role in orchestrating collaboration across teams, facilitating innovation, assisting in leading the enhancement of Instacart’s tech brand, and enabling the technology organization to deliver transformative solutions that empower millions of people to nourish their lives with ease. This role is central to amplifying impact, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring the CTO’s vision translates into tangible outcomes across Instacart’s four-sided marketplace of Consumers, Shoppers, Retailers, and Advertisers. 

About the Job 

  • Work across teams to manage business rhythms for the CTO (team meetings, operating cadence, newsletters/org communications, etc.)
  • Act as a strategic counsel to cross-functional partners.
  • Ensure progress on priority technical workstreams, help build technical decision-making frameworks, deliverables, etc.
  • Design and maintain tools and systems to coordinate and track VP’s engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work across teams to prepare technical briefings and coordinate research for meetings with partners and key leaders (e.g. identify goals and talking points, provide background on attendees, etc.)
  • Writing technical drafts of internal comms including proofing and advising on technical content/communication
  • Build technical documents and presentations as needed.
  • Able to travel < 10% of the time

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience working on/with technical teams.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience working as an engineer.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Experience working and influencing at all levels, including executive and C-suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing/leading a technical team.
