Job Summary:

As a CFO Advisory Manager, you partner closely with business owners, CFOs, Controllers, and finance leaders to help organizations navigate growth, improve financial operations, and strengthen decision-making. You serve as both a trusted advisor and hands-on problem solver, helping clients build scalable finance functions, enhance reporting and forecasting processes, improve operational efficiency, and address critical business challenges.

In this role, you'll work with a variety of middle-market, founder-led, and private equity-backed companies, often stepping into situations that require practical solutions, strong business judgment, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves. The ideal candidate brings a blend of accounting, finance, and operational experience, enjoys building relationships, and thrives in environments where no two client challenges are exactly alike.

You will be most successful in this role if you enjoy working with growing businesses, wearing multiple hats, creating structure where it doesn't yet exist, and taking a hands-on approach to solving complex business challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to CFOs, Controllers, business owners, and executive leadership teams on finance, accounting, and operational matters
  • Assess finance and accounting functions to identify opportunities to improve reporting, processes, controls, and overall business performance
  • Provide hands-on financial leadership support, including serving in interim finance leadership roles when needed
  • Lead client engagements involving financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, process improvement, and finance transformation initiatives
  • Partner closely with client teams to develop practical solutions and drive successful implementation
  • Support clients through periods of growth, system implementations, financing events, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives
  • Develop meaningful reporting, dashboards, and analytics that improve decision-making and business visibility
  • Manage client relationships, engagement timelines, and project deliverables while serving as the primary day-to-day point of contact
  • Mentor and develop consultants and senior associates while fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Contribute to practice growth through exceptional client service, business development efforts, and identification of new opportunities

Education & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, CFO Advisory, Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS), public accounting, or consulting roles
  • CPA or Master’s degree (MBA, MAcc, or MS in Finance) required
  • Experience within growing, middle-market, entrepreneurial, private equity-backed, or founder-led organizations preferred
  • Strong foundation in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and finance operations
  • Experience supporting business owners, CFOs, Controllers, or executive leadership teams in a financial advisory or operational finance capacity
  • Proven ability to lead projects, manage client relationships, and solve complex business problems
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
