The Markel Corporate Catastrophe Management team is seeking a Catastrophe Management Lead to join our Cyber Catastrophe Management team and lead the aggregation, modeling and reporting of affirmative cyber lines Corporately and within Markel US & Bermuda. You will be joining a group of dedicated professionals charged with ensuring Markel is able to financially withstand catastrophic loss from natural and man-made perils, producing accurate catastrophe related statistics, and achieving profitable growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and support to the cyber underwriting team.
  • Lead efforts in providing and communicating exposure and cyber catastrophe loss estimates in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Advance automation to further develop efficient analysis and reporting processes.
  • Validate vendor cyber catastrophe models and perform change management analysis as the models are updated.
  • Perform portfolio risk roll-up, apply applicable outwards reinsurance terms, analyze, and validate results in a timely manner.
  • Relate mathematical catastrophe models to the real world and provide guidance to management that translates results to actionable items.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities and potential acquisitions providing input to senior management.
  • Proactively share knowledge in related areas, creating learning experiences and fostering collaboration within the organization, including mentoring and training less experienced analysts.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of insurance concepts, policy terms and conditions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SQL & Power BI.
  • Ability to apply and interpret advanced mathematical, economical, and statistical concepts.
  • Creative problem solver who is detail-oriented and possesses exceptional organization and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts effectively across diverse professional disciplines.
  • 3+ years of work experience as a catastrophe modeler/analyst or in a related position within the insurance/reinsurance field with knowledge of commercial cyber catastrophe models (CyberCube/ Cyence/RMS) preferred.

Education:

Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in a related quantitative field required.

Pay information:

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary for the position is $109,000 - $159,610 with a 25% bonus potential.
