Job Summary

The Director of Electronics Engineering is responsible for the long-term technical activities related to the development, evaluation, testing and lifecycle of new electronics products integrated into CIMD-A electric motors. This role leads the engineering activities for electronics, control boards, sensors, power interfaces, and firmware used in commercial and industrial motor applications.
The role partners closely with New Product Development (NPD), Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Field teams to ensure electronics designs are robust, compliant, cost-effective, and supportable throughout the product lifecycle. The position plays a critical role in developing new products, driving continuous improvement of electronics performance in demanding industrial environments, reducing field issues and managing component obsolescence.

Job Description

People & Technical Leadership

  • Own engineering responsibility for all motor-integrated electronics across CIMD-A.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electronics engineers.
  • Lead structured root cause analysis and corrective action for electronics failures.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex electronics issues (quality, customer, production).
  • Establish technical standards, priorities, and workload planning for activities.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers and marketing, aiming to define the best-fit of electronics products for the business.

New Product Development (NPD)

  • Work directly with NPD team during the entire electronics product development (design reviews, tests validation, pilot builds, and production phases).
  • Ensure smooth transition of electronics designs from NPD into manufacturing.
  • Feed field, manufacturing, and warranty learnings back into future electronics architectures and platform decisions.

Product Reliability & Lifecycle Management

  • Drive corrective and preventive actions using structured methodologies (8D, DFMEA).
  • Manage electronics component lifecycle risks, including obsolescence, alternate sourcing, and redesign initiatives.
  • Ensure electronics designs meet reliability expectations for industrial motor environments (temperature, vibration, EMI/EMC).

Manufacturing & Quality Support

  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve electronics assembly, testing, and yield issues.
  • Support development & improvement of electronics test strategies & validation processes.
  • Reduce scrap, rework, and warranty exposure related to electronics.

Supplier & Cost Management

  • Work directly with electronics suppliers and manufacturers to resolve quality and performance issues.
  • Lead cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives related to electronics BOMs and design improvements.
  • Support supplier qualification, audits, and ongoing performance management.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Ensure sustained compliance of electronics with applicable standards (UL, CSA, CE, EMC, RoHS, REACH, IEC).
  • Support certification maintenance and regulatory updates impacting motor-electronics.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in electronics engineering, engineering, or embedded systems
  • Experience in electric motors, industrial equipment, drives
  • Prior leadership experience managing technical engineering teams
