Position at AST Bearings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Motion Industries and Genuine Parts Company 

SUMMARY: 
AST Bearings LLC is a leading nationwide supplier of high precision bearings and bearing related products. We are presently seeking a highly motivated Buyer Planner for our Purchasing Department located in our New Bedford, Massachusetts location. AST has long been one of the leading companies in our niche market sectors. This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager and there is opportunity for growth as we are part of a Fortune 200 company with over 50,000 employees worldwide. 

JOB DUTIES

• Analyze inventory, usage, forecasts and production data to determine appropriate scheduling. Intermediate* Excel skills needed. 
• Use and learn to become expert user of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and SCM (Supply Chain Management) software. 
• Submit and follow up on Quotation Requests (RFQ) to suppliers. 
• Negotiate with suppliers regarding pricing, delivery, and other requirements. 
• Create, transmit, confirm, expedite, and update purchase orders. 
• Communicate with freight forwarders and coordinate documents required for foreign shipments, both import and export. 
• Analyze product and assign HTS codes. 
• Enter and maintain accurate duty and tariff information in system. 
• Assist Sales in determining landed costs, including cost, freight, and duty/tariffs. 
• Provide Sales with freight and air shipping costs as needed, including rush shipments. 
• Provide analysis and support for SKU rationalization / maintenance and other business initiatives.

• Work proactively with sales and marketing to identify trends and refine the demand plan.

• Liaise with external and internal delivery and warehouse teams to ensure goods are received on time.

• Obtain and review purchase order confirmation from suppliers, notifying sales of significant changes. 
• Maintain department files: purchase orders, quotations, new item forms, correspondence, etc.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent. Three years or more experience and/or a related tertiary degree is a plus. Some intermediate* Excel skills needed.

• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and intermediate* Excel skills

• Strong reporting and analytical skills, detail oriented.

• Strong oral and written communication skills for presentations to all levels of customer and management.

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.

• Highly organized, dependable, and reliable. 
• Possess a "can do", positive attitude. 
• Thrive in a fast-paced environment with an ability to multi-task and set priorities to meet deadlines • Knowledge of import / customs processes and requirements / harmonized tariff code is a plus. 
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
• Ability to communicate and work with people from different countries and cultures whose main language may not be English, but who are communicating in English. 

* First two Excel levels, this job requires Intermediate or higher: 
Beginner – Beginner level skills include the ability to format basic formulas, conduct formatting within Excel, and create charts and graphs. 
Intermediate – Intermediate level skills include more advanced formula understanding, the ability to utilize pivot tables, and lookup functions.
