Description

Every deposit, loan payment, and paycheck our members count on runs through the systems you will keep humming. At SCU Credit Union, the Business Systems Analyst is the go-to expert for our Episys core: the person who keeps the nightly cycle clean, builds the tools our teams rely on, and turns business needs into working solutions.

If you love solving problems, writing PowerOn and SQL, and seeing your work make a real difference for a community, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Do

Own the core.

  • Keep Symitar Episys running efficiently, securely, and in line with banking regulations.
  • Run day-to-day Episys operations and administration.
  • Review and strengthen the Goodnight production cycle using SMA OpCon.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and schedule end-of-day and end-of-month batch jobs so members never feel downtime.
  • Review, test, and roll out Episys and vendor releases, and decide which enhancements we adopt.

Build what the business needs.

  • Partner with business units to gather requirements and design solutions for new processes and features.
  • Develop in PowerOn: reports, On-Demand staff functions, SymXchange APIs, SymForms, and batch FM reports.
  • Create and schedule complex SQL reports in ARCU.
  • Work in an Agile team across the full SDLC: requirements, development, code review, deployment, monitoring, and support.
  • Design UAT test scripts, coordinate testing, and verify changes before they go live.

Keep us safe and audit-ready.

  • Lead user access reviews and controls testing.
  • Take part in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing for core systems.
  • Follow change management, and communicate errors, changes, and new features clearly.
  • Keep procedures current for audits as systems change or new systems come on board.
  • Perform annual vendor monitoring and due diligence for new vendors.

Look ahead.

  • Support systems that connect to Episys, including reporting tools, cold storage, and retail and loan software.
  • Research new products and industry trends, and recommend where they can help our members and staff.

Requirements

 Required

  • 7+ years of banking or credit union operations experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Hands-on configuration experience with at least one major core banking system.
  • Advanced SQL: querying large datasets, optimizing relational databases, and auditing transaction logs.
  • Solid working knowledge of the SDLC and core banking or payment processing architecture.
  • Strong understanding of ACH file formats and the ISO 20022 messaging standard.
  • Familiarity with banking regulations and how they affect business systems.
  • Bachelor's or associate degree, or equivalent related experience.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong organization, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Jack Henry Symitar (Episys) experience, including PowerOn.
  • Experience with SMA OpCon, ARCU, or SymXchange.
  • Microsoft Builder experience.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
