The analyst will support the business strategy and analytics team by generating insights, handling data requests, building predictive models, and collaborating with stakeholders.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Business Analytics & Intelligence team works with departments throughout the Red Sox organization and the broader Fenway Sports Group ecosystem to help drive data-driven decision-making in all aspects of the company’s business. Responsibilities include predictive analytics, business intelligence, market research, customer segmentation, workflow automation, dynamic ticket pricing, and data science.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Boston Red Sox are seeking a talented self-starter with a strong analytics background and a passion for the business side of sports to join the organization’s business strategy and analytics team in an analyst role. The analyst will act in both a support role, helping the team deliver insights across the organization, as well as in an independent capacity, creating and spearheading new strategic initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supporting the business strategy & analytics department on a day-to-day basis, including attending meetings, generating insights, and taking ownership of specific projects.
- Leveraging our data environment to respond to data and reporting requests from various departments across the organization.
- Building and maintaining a variety of predictive models, especially around dynamic ticket pricing, demand modeling, and customer engagement.
- Helping maintain and develop our Google Cloud data environment.
- Handling daily data and analytics requests throughout the year, freeing up departmental resources and acting as a key point-person for a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Building relationships and creating efficiencies across departments throughout the front office.
- Working with our data and reporting team to help structure our evolving data environment in an appropriate way to improve our customer visibility and help drive revenue.
- Coordinating partnerships between vendors and internal stakeholders to support adoption and best-practices of third-party tools and platforms.
- Generally supporting the organizational goal of expanding the use of data and analytics within the entire Red Sox front office.
CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Background (either academic or professional) in quantitative analysis.
- Experience with a statistical software package (e.g. R, SPSS).
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
- A passion for solving unstructured problems and the ability to take projects from start to finish under tight timelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- A history of success both driving projects independently as well as working within a larger team.
- Experience with Tableau, Salesforce, Google BigQuery, Python, and SQL preferred.
