Purpose of the Role

As a Business Manager on the Systematic Business Management team, you will partner with colleagues across Boston and London to support the operations, growth, and strategic priorities of the Systematic business unit. No two days look the same. Your work will span product launch support, strategic initiative coordination, meeting and materials preparation, and ensuring the broader needs of the business are met.

This is a role for someone who thrives on variety, takes ownership of problems, and can move fluidly between independent workstreams and close cross-functional collaboration. A background in investment management, product structuring, or experience within an investment management organization will position you to hit the ground running.

The role and responsibilities will include

  • Product Governance Support the growth of the Systematic Micro and Macro product ecosystem. While product launches are coordinated by the Product Management team, you will support the governance framework and provide tailored ongoing support for each client: including onboarding coordination, documentation, and lifecycle tracking.
  • Project Management Lead projects of varying size, complexity, and subject matter. These will primarily support investment-related initiatives but will regularly span central functions such as Legal, Operations, Technology, and Compliance.
  • Process Improvement & Operational Risk Proactively identify areas where business processes can be streamlined or strengthened. Propose and coordinate improvements while building a working understanding of the unit's operational risk landscape and supporting related needs.
  • Data Management & Tracking Maintain and organize key business data including terms and agreement tracking with Legal, operational risk, commercial data, and project dashboards, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and up to date.
  • Meeting Coordination & Follow-Through Prepare materials for and coordinate meetings and committees. Drive follow-ups and accountability on action items to keep initiatives moving forward.
  • Ad-Hoc Strategic Support In a fast-moving environment, priorities shift. You'll be expected to step into emerging challenges with energy and resourcefulness, helping the team respond to evolving business needs.

Project Management & Communication

  • Proven ability to manage projects end-to-end: scoping requirements, setting timelines, delegating tasks, and driving deliverables to completion
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to build trust quickly across teams and levels of seniority
  • Ability to identify team needs, synthesize information, and present clear recommendations to management
  • Comfort in building relationships with key stakeholders across a global organization

Mindset & Working Style

  • Self-directed and resourceful — you prioritize your own workload, operate effectively in ambiguity, and drive work forward without waiting for detailed instructions
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats — you can shift between strategic thinking and hands-on execution in the same day
  • Strong proficiency in productivity and presentation tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) and comfort leveraging AI tools
  • A genuine curiosity about how the Systematic business unit, and Man Group more broadly operates

Bonus

  • Technical aptitude or familiarity with development lifecycles
  • Experience with investment product structuring or fund operations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Management, Finance, or a related field
  • About 5 years of experience in project management, business management, or a comparable operational role
  • Ability to lead initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, able to synthesize information from multiple sources and deliver actionable insights
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to balance multiple concurrent priorities

You'll Thrive Here If You…

  • Are energized by variety and genuinely enjoy connecting dots across teams and functions
  • Take pride in driving things to completion even when the path isn't fully mapped out
  • Want to deeply understand how an investment business operates, from portfolio construction to client delivery
  • Value collaboration but don't need hand-holding to get things done

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
