About the Job

Every conversation you start as a Business Development Representative helps an employer give their workforce faster access to the pay they've already earned. As a BDR 1, you'll be the first voice many HR, payroll, and finance leaders hear from Tapcheck, running the outbound outreach that turns cold prospects into qualified meetings for our Account Executives.

You'll get structured training, hands-on coaching, and a clear path to grow. BDRs who consistently hit their performance metrics typically earn a promotion to BDR 2 within 6 to 12 months. If you're competitive, curious, and ready to build a sales career at a mission-driven fintech, this is your launchpad.

What You'll Do

Prospecting and Outreach

• Run daily outbound outreach across phone, email, and LinkedIn to start conversations with HR, payroll, operations, and finance leaders

• Research target accounts and personalize your messaging to each prospect's industry, workforce, and priorities

• Use AI tools to speed up account research and draft outreach, then sharpen it with your own judgment and voice

Qualification and Meeting Setting

• Qualify inbound and marketing-sourced leads to identify real sales opportunities

• Book and manage discovery meetings for Account Executives, with clean, well-documented handoffs

• Learn Tapcheck's products, pricing, and value proposition well enough to handle early objections with confidence

Performance and Growth

• Hit weekly and monthly activity and meeting targets in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment

• Keep prospect activity and notes accurate and up to date in our CRM

• Put coaching, role-play, and call feedback into practice quickly

• Represent Tapcheck with professionalism and care in every interaction

What You've Done

Required

• Spent 6 to 12 months in a customer-facing role, such as retail, hospitality, a call center, or customer service

• Started conversations with people you didn't know, whether through cold calling, outreach, fundraising, campus recruiting, or volunteering

• Worked toward goals, quotas, or performance targets and kept pushing when results didn't come right away

• Communicated clearly and confidently over the phone, in writing, and on LinkedIn

• Taken feedback and turned it into visible improvement

Preferred

• Completed an internship in sales, marketing, business development, or a related area

• Used a CRM such as Salesforce or HubSpot, or a sales engagement tool

• Used AI tools to research, write, or work more efficiently

• Shown interest in fintech, HR tech, payroll, or financial wellness

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
