Job Description Summary:

Fenwick is seeking a proactive and strategic Business Development Manager with an understanding of the life sciences industry to join our growing team. This individual will support our Life Sciences Group and key partners in our IP and Corporate practices. This is a dynamic role for someone who thrives on driving strategic initiatives, enhancing partner visibility, and building relationships with the most innovative biotech and life science companies and investors globally.
This position can be based in our Boston (MA), New York (NY), Washington (DC), Silicon Valley (CA), or San Francisco (CA) office locations and offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing you to work both from home and at your designated Fenwick office. The frequency of in-office work will be determined by business needs and guided by your department's directives.

Job Description:

  • Develop and execute strategic business development initiatives that strengthen and grow the firm’s Life Sciences practice.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to life science partners, providing thought leadership, market insights, and innovative strategies to drive growth.
  • Identify, evaluate, and execute on BD and networking opportunities, including industry events, sponsorships, and speaking engagements.
  • Collaborate with Life Sciences partners and business development colleagues to identify cross-selling opportunities and pursue new engagements.
  • Support partners in managing and expanding their networks, ensuring regular touchpoints with key clients, prospects, and referral sources.
  • Coordinate and prepare compelling pitch materials, responses to RFPs, and post-mortem analyses.
  • Collaborate with marketing and events teams to plan and execute local and targeted life sciences events.
  • Produce and support the dissemination of high-impact thought leadership content to elevate the firm’s visibility in the life sciences space.
  • Manage and maintain accurate data in CRM (Salesforce), client lists, BD activity logs, and experience databases.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive intelligence, and key ecosystem players to identify new opportunities for the firm.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of the life sciences sector and the biotech startup and investment ecosystem.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, that meet the demands of high-performing large law firm partners.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex BD projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Advanced search, data collection and reporting skills, including use of CRM tools and proprietary research databases.
  • Intermediate to advanced social networking skills 
  • Understanding of the legal industry, especially large law firm practices and sales cycles 
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel 

Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager – Life Sciences, the ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience; law firm experience is strongly preferred. Specific experience with the life sciences industry is strongly preferred. Account management and/or customer relationship management experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree required.

The anticipated range for this position is:

$138,000 - $206,250

Depending on the role, the actual base salary offered may depend upon a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

A discretionary bonus for eligible employees may also be available based on performance.  Additional information about employee eligibility for benefits and discretionary bonus will be made available upon request.
