We are seeking a Business Development Associate to join our Global Business Development organization and support strategic growth within our Microbial, Mammalian and Nucleic Acids business platforms. Reporting to the Vice Present of Business Development, this role is an integral part of expanding AGC Biologics' commercial footprint across North America.

Based in Boston, MA, one of the world's most dynamic biotech hubs, this individual will provide broad prospecting and pipeline support to the entire North American Business Development team whilst serving as a key on-the-ground presence in the Boston/Cambridge Biotech ecosystem.

The Business Development Associate is the prospecting engine of the North American BD team - driving systematic outreach, surfacing high-potential opportunities, and ensuring a consistent flow of qualified leads that empower our BD Directors to engage, advance, and close new development and manufacturing partnerships across the region.

About Our Business Development Team

You'll join a highly collaborative global team that partners closely across technical, legal, marketing, and operational functions to support customers throughout the full development and manufacturing lifecycle. Our team operates in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment where strategic thinking, relationship building, and commercial excellence drive success. We focus on delivering high-quality opportunities aligned with our mission to bring hope to life through biopharmaceutical innovation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and qualify new business leads across North America, serving as the primary prospecting resource for the North American Business Development team working hand in hand with our Market Intelligence, Marketing teams.

  • Conduct targeted proactive outreach—via phone, email, LinkedIn, and industry events—to engage prospective clients and generate a robust pipeline of development and manufacturing opportunities spanning the full North American territory.

  • Partner closely with North American BD Directors and Senior Directors to prioritize target accounts, coordinate outreach strategies, and ensure seamless handoff of qualified opportunities.

  • Leverage Boston/Cambridge market presence to build and maintain relationships within the local biotech and pharmaceutical community, representing AGC Biologics' on-the-ground at local events and increasing brand awareness in the Boston Biotech Ecosystem.

  • Coordinate, attend, and actively represent AGC Biologics at local Boston-area industry events, networking functions,  North American conferences, and trade shows, capturing leads and advancing relationships on behalf of the broader North American team.

  • Effectively communicate AGC Biologics' technical and operational capabilities to key decision-makers and scientific stakeholders within prospective organizations.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all prospect interactions, pipeline activity, and opportunity status within CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), ensuring full visibility and timely follow-up across the North American team.

  • Collaborate with Marketing to support North American commercial initiatives, including campaign execution, conference preparation, and targeted lead generation activities.

  • Gather and synthesize market intelligence based on customer interactions, sharing insights with BD and commercial leadership to inform North American go-to-market strategy.

  • Consistently deliver high-quality qualified opportunities aligned with company growth strategies and leadership expectations.

Your Leadership & Professional Competencies

  • Treats outreach as a craft, understands that breaking through in today's environment requires creativity, precision, and persistence, and continuously refines messaging, sequencing, and timing to maximize response rates.

  • Skilled at translating complex scientific and technical capabilities into concise, compelling outreach that resonates with busy decision-makers, whether a VP of Process Development or a Head of Business Operations.

  • Relentlessly proactive and self-motivated, with a hunter mentality and the discipline to execute high-volume, high-quality outreach consistently without losing personalization or impact.

  • Highly organized and systematic in approach, builds and manages structured prospecting cadences, maintains rigorous CRM hygiene, and tracks outreach performance to continuously improve conversion at every stage of the funnel.

  • Adept at researching target accounts and individual contacts to craft tailored, insight-driven outreach that demonstrates genuine understanding of a prospect's pipeline, platform, and priorities.

  • Comfortable operating across multiple channels simultaneously - email, phone, LinkedIn, events, and referrals—and knows how to sequence touchpoints for maximum effectiveness.

  • Collaborative and team-oriented, functioning as a true force multiplier for the BD Directors they support - operating in alignment with AGC Biologics' Core Values: Knowledge, Trust, Quality, Ingenuity, Accountability, and Teamwork.

  • Intellectually curious about the biopharmaceutical landscape, with a drive to develop deep familiarity with AGC Biologics' capabilities, the CDMO competitive environment, and the evolving needs of biotech and pharma clients.

  • Resilient and growth-oriented - views rejection as data, iterates quickly, and remains energized by the challenge of opening doors in a competitive, high-stakes industry.

Your Experience & Qualifications

Required:

  • 1-3 years of experience in business development, inside sales, or a related commercial role, preferably within the CDMO, CRO, or broader life sciences/biopharmaceutical sector.

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated track record of proactive outreach and lead qualification, with the ability to generate and manage a high-volume pipeline across multiple accounts and geographies.

  • Proven ability to craft personalized, high-impact outreach across email, phone, and LinkedIn that consistently generates responses and opens doors with scientific and commercial stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) and standard business tools (Microsoft Office Suite), with strong discipline around pipeline tracking and data integrity.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical content into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.

  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically (~15%) for industry events and internal engagements.

  • Based in the Boston, MA area.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with biologics drug development processes, including microbial (E. coli, yeast) or mammalian (CHO, HEK) expression systems or nucleic acids.

  • Prior experience in a CDMO, CRO, or biopharmaceutical company in a commercial or scientific role.

  • Experience with lead generation and sales engagement tools (e.g., ZoomInfo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Outreach, Salesloft).

  • Understanding of the drug development lifecycle from early-stage research through commercial manufacturing.

  • Established network within the Boston/Cambridge biotech and pharma community.
