Position Overview
The Remote Bookkeeper supports the Finance Department by managing day-to-day financial tasks including accounts payable, accounts receivable, donation reconciliation, payroll support, and general ledger updates. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining financial accuracy, ensuring compliance, and supporting overall parish operations.
The ideal candidate is organized, trustworthy, experienced in bookkeeping or accounting, and comfortable managing confidential financial information.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger entries
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Record and reconcile donations, online giving, and parish contributions
- Prepare and organize financial statements, reports, and summaries
- Assist with payroll preparation and employee expense tracking
- Reconcile bank accounts and verify transaction accuracy
- Communicate with vendors, staff, and ministry leaders regarding financial updates
- Monitor budgets, expense categories, and financial timelines
- Support annual audits and assist with documentation requests
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to parish financial policies
- Collaborate remotely with the Finance Office and parish administration
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience as a bookkeeper, accounting assistant, or finance support professional
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial accuracy
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets and digital financial tools
- High level of integrity and discretion with confidential information
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Reliable computer and internet connection
Preferred:
- Experience working in a church, nonprofit, or donor-based organization
- Familiarity with ParishSOFT, Realm, or other parish financial systems
- Understanding of fund accounting or donation tracking
- Background in working with ministries, volunteers, or parish operations
